White backround or not?

I have never used a white background for my items. I always prefered a more playful one, so I use scrapbooking papers as font.
Since this week's holiday bootcamp emphasizes on photos, I was taking a look at my shop and realized it's a little bit messy. Probably because I offer different packages of the same item so there are 3 listings that have the same photo and also because the background is not always the same.
What should I do? Should I use white background? Will it look more professional?
And when it comes to shooting more than items together, how can I get a good picture? Any ideas?

Hi Athina
I saw your shop and personnally I prefer your scrapbooking paper background!
Maybe you can use the same paper for each section?

I like your polka dot background the best! Very colorful and fun. Maybe photo all of your items on the same paper?

Re: White backround or not?

I tried that but the problem is the paper is too small to photograph some of my items. I mean when I want to photograph my ornament packages there's not enough paper to fit all.

I say white background. Your pieces are super cute and colorful by themselves.

Re: White backround or not?

White background for sure. That way you are also WAY more likely to be used in treasuries!

Re: White backround or not?

Treasury makers generally prefer images more "clean"? I have never made a treasury and I have no clue

Re: White backround or not?

i like your photos - your items are so colorful and they are toys - so the scrapbooking-paper works really well with them - but i woudn't use so many diffrent one - perhaps you take for each section the same paper?

Re: White backround or not?

I have a white Christmas tree that I use at craft shows. I think it really makes the colors of my ornaments "pop"!

Re: White backround or not?

I've used scrapbook papers too....still do. But as others have said your items are very colourful in themselves that a more neutral background would make them pop even better. Cohesion is the key. It will make your items stand out and instantly the potential customer can see what they want and click on it. Having the same background will bring your shop front together and look even more inviting. Hope that helps some ...

Re: White backround or not?

you can have custom fabric printed at spoonflower.com with polka dots on a white background (or find some fun polka dot fabric) and have that as your background but out of focus (off in the background or change your DOF), don't lean your products against it. That way you have the colorful background but your product is the main focus.

Re: White backround or not?

Hmm, I'm torn. I love the colorful look of the scrapbook paper but have to agree that a neutral background does make items pop. I say try a white background and see how it makes you feel. Does it give you a wow moment? It did for me and I've noticed an increase in my treasury listings and views. BTW, you have a great shop!

Re: White backround or not?

I'd try some photos with white, or very light and plain. Your items are so colorful, and I think it'd really make them "pop". Try it and see....you can always go back to the dots. OR try white as photo #1 and see if it makes a difference with your views and sales.

My personal opinion. . .I absolutely love your items on scrapbook paper background. Whimsical, fun, cute...really compliments your items. Maybe mix it up a little.

Re: White backround or not?

I've been grappling with this myself. I like the darker background, but it does darken the store overall. Also, some of my items are dark and some are light, so contrasting looks best for individual images, but makes the store a hodgepodge overall. I'm not dedicated to any one process, but right now I'm trying to group dark and light listings together on a page.

Re: White backround or not?

I prefer shops with 'something' in the background. It gives the items more character as oppose to blatantly white backgrounds.

Yes, I know my items have a white background. lol

Re: White backround or not?

I'm torn on this. I think it looks super cute, but at the same time, there's almost too much going on and it's a bit distracted.

Re: White backround or not?

I think your items are so cute and look so well made.
I really do think they will stand out so well on the white background..I mean its all well and good to feel a bit different but if you want items to be selected in treasuries and hopefully you can make it the front page then you have the best chance by doing a white background. I have found this advice to be spot on personally.. Maybe then show other views once someone clicks on it.
Anyway it's up to you, kind regards nicole
