Whew!!!

Well, at the advice of several members on different teams, I finally raised my prices. Since starting to sell in April, pricing has been a hard thing for me. I started low. Then, I'd watch an Etsy video about pricing and feel all empowered and up my prices, but then get scared and instantly inch them back down again. I'd worry myself and say "in this economy, no one is buying. Who am I to hike up prices?"

Low and behold, I changed my prices yesterday (actually a pretty significant increase from what they were). I woke up to 2 sales today.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that your time and effort is worth more than you think! It's hard to charge enough for something you love to do.... but you need to. It's been a hard thing for me to do, but I'm glad I finally did. :)

Re: Whew!!!

Congrats!!! That's wonderful!!
Pricing something at what you feel you deserve is so nerve-racking, I agree! But I think buyers appreciate it when we appreciate our items :)

Atta girl, Karly!

Your shop looks great! Super photos, lots of color, and your prices are very reasonable for all your items.

We all struggle with pricing, especially because we do what we love, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be compensated for our time creating.

The general rule is, if you're not selling, don't reduce your prices, rather increase them... it's a perceived value thing, and as you now see, it works ;)

Re: Whew!!!

Thanks so much for the kind words, everyone! *blush*
Cher, it's true about the "perceived value." A member said she showed a picture of one of my bags to her mom and asked how much she though it cost. The price she guessed was nearly DOUBLE what i had it listed at. When the member told her mom how much the actual price was, she said it suddenly didn't seem as quality in her eyes.
I didn't end up doubling my prices, but it gave me something interesting to think about and go off of!

Re: Whew!!!

There ya go, Karly... a perfect example ;)
Often times what elevates a craft from a hobby to a business is only the price... same quality of materials and workmanship involved, but for some reason it's viewed differently because of the price. And those who feel the need to under value their work to be competitive won't be able to hang in for the long haul and build their business, if they don't make a decent profit.
