When is a good time to put items on sale? I know that the summer months are really slow for sales, are things starting to pick up for people yet? I was thinking about waiting until black friday to put items in my shop on sale, but what do you think?

Sales are not very successful here, esp. if you are trying to use sales to boost how many items are bought. If you want a sale to be successful, they need to be planned months in advance so that you can promote them. I did a one day sale in July, and had promoted it on my Facebook page for a month before it actually happened. I announced it a month before hand with little details, then gave bits of the details little by little as the date got closer. In that once day I got 4 sales, 3 being big ticket items. Every other sale I have done has never worked.

I do not believe in sales on Etsy and have never done them.....
Summer months have been slow but I am not sure it is picking up again.... it stays awful quiet in my little shop....

I am doing a 20% off sale now for the rest of September through Etsy on sale. You can't stoop it once it is started and since I started the sale my views have been down and it isn't creating sales either. Don't think I will do it again. Everything new you list is also on sale in this type of sale.

I think the big sales like Boxing Day or such may have some kind of success but I don't think others do.

In US time 3 divisions time is suitable to post items
One is 12 AM, Two is 6 PM , Three is 11 PM

I think that's an individual decision! If you're just trying to create some business run a sale anytime...if you want to clear out older inventory create a "clearance" category in your shop. Some shops run nonstop sales! I give my really good customers a "rewards" discount for use anytime. (10% coupon). It can be hit or miss!

I did a sale for Black Friday last year and didn't get much from it. I recently added a clearance section and that seems to have boosted my views.
Did get 1 sale from it.

When I sold candles, sales made a huge difference. It depends on what you sell.

Generally speaking, things are slower for me than they were in August - so far. In terms of sales, I did have one last month but it didn't directly bring me any sales. In fact I ultimately refunded most of my buyers the discount difference because they did not use the coupon code I had activated.

The last time somebody actually took advantage of a sale at my own shop was Black Friday 2011. I've had a few discount promos since then and they have not been used.

None of my sales have worked... but, I sometimes give a return customer coupon code with an order.

I plan to run a sale this year for Cyber Monday probably though now that I actually have followers on my facebook page :) figured I'd just promote it there and if nothing happens, nothing happens... but doesn't hurt to try :)

I've been running a sale for about 2 weeks now to clear out some excess inventory. So far its been fairly successful as many people who have purchased sale items have also purchased other items as well.

However, I did a huge campaign for the week before hand and also put it in my September newsletter that reaches my target market directly as well.

If you market your sale you can do very well with it.
