Do you pay attention to transient trends?

Paying attention to what's latest can be overwhelming, as new trends seem to come and go faster than we can say "socks with sandals." However, I've seen small business owners keep up with the pace- how?

Though I think it is understated, Etsy is conscious of these ever- changing times: some sellers include mustached items, and the wedding banner is present for those shopping for the marital occasion.

Do you incorporate what's new into your items? Do you change your banner according to season or holiday? Is there a medium between what's new and what's traditional? And if so, are there buyers out there looking for a mix of the two?

I try to be aware of them, but I don't follow them too much. Some trends can easily and fairly inexpensively be incorporated into my jewelry, but many are just not a good fit. Plus, I'm not hip enough myself to always keep up with what's "in". ;)

I do change my banner & avatar seasonally - right now, it's nautical. In the Fall, it will be more of a woodland theme, probably.

I think there is definitely a middle ground between traditional and current trends.

And I vote bare feet over socks and sandals. ;)

I only know one woman who can pull off the socks and sandals look:)

I find I just don't have time to keep up with the trends - I try to be seasonal in color and design and am just about ready to add Autumn to my shop.

I don't keep up with trends, usually. I changed my banner recently to one that resembles a product I make, but I don't consider it trendy.

I prefer bare feet over socks and sandals, too!

I don't pay too much attention to trends. I make what I like to make. If a particular color is the in thing, I may feature it, or tag it for search (like "tango tangerine"). I do make seasonal items or items in seasonal colors. I never change my banner except to add text when I'm having a sale.

Socks with sandals is grounds for divorce IMHO.

I do pay attention to trends. I look at magazines and look at key word searches. I like to use trends for inspiration and to keep my shop fresh!
