What platform do you use for your blog?

I want to start a blog in the new year but I am not sure what to use. I signed up for Tumblr but I'm not sure it is what I want. I've heard of Blogger, Blogspot (are those two the same?), Wordpress, Posterous, Tumblr...are there more?

What do you use and why do you like it?

I use blogger/blogspot, which is nice and straight forward. Very user friendly.

If you really want to customize your blog and/or integrate a website, I would suggest getting some web hosting and using Wordpress.

Tumblr is mostly picture based blogging, not so much for writing/commenting. I just use it to post images with links to my sales posts.

Wordpress, it's a self hosted site, not a wordpress.com blog. I LOVE wordpress, but there's a bit of a learning curve. Blogspot and blogger are the same thing I think. I have a blogger blog, but it just re-directs you to my wordpress blog.

Blogger for me. It's easy to use and I can mess with the code to tweak it to my taste.

Re: What platform do you use for your blog?

I started with Blogspot. I switched to Wordpress to avoid Google. Silly reason because I use Google for email and stats on my shop, website and Tumblr blog. Yep, I use Tumblr too. I wanted learn if it had advantages over Blogspot and Wordpress. No it doesn't. I use it to reblog my Wordpress blog (redundant I know) and follow other Tumblr blogs. Following Tumblr blogs is easy because you simply click the "follow" button on a favorite blog.

I learned every blog service provides the same bells and whistles with different lingo. I recommend you start with Tumblr or Blogspot. Move onto Wordpress if you want to create pages, finesse type, take advantage of the iPad option and view blog stats. I consider Wordpress the powerhouse of blogging.

Re: What platform do you use for your blog?

I use blogger, too. It's super easy. You mentioned you signed up for tumblr -- if you're interested in posting mainly photos, short descriptions, links, etc. Tumblr is great. But if you're thinking more of a traditional blog with lots of text (ie, more than a couple of sentences per post) accompanying your photos, I would recommend Blogspot or Wordpress. It really depends on what you want to get out of it. If you want to go deeper into your process and who you are as an artist, I'd say Blogspot or Wordpress but if you are more interested in not saying much and instead attracting people with your photos to bring them to your shop, Tumblr will work well for you.

Re: What platform do you use for your blog?

Thanks for the input! When I went to checkout Wordpress, I felt like I needed to get a "Wordpress Degree" before being able to figure it out! Then I went to Tumblr and it was like it was saying, "See how easy this is? Any idiot can do it." And I felt right at home. lol

Maybe Blogger is my happy medium. I don't want to just do pictures.
