What is this "Syndication" thing I'm seeing?

I've recently noticed people talking about "syndication". Can anyone please explain that that is? And is it helpful for shops?

It shows up under promote on the bottom left of you shop. Someone else correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is it makes you more relevant when someone searches google shopping.
You need 5 sales and no negative feedback to get this.
Just to let you know, I have seen no difference since I was syndicated.

I was wondering the same thing. Several people have said that it hasn't changed their views or sales at all.

It actually puts you into Google shopping. If you are not syndicated you will not show up in Google shopping but may come up in a normal search.

You can't make yourself syndicated it just eventually happens.

I keep hearing it doesn't make much of a difference, But I sure would like to find out for myself

I first head about this earlier this week, and someone on that thread suggested contacting Etsy Help and asking to have the syndication feature installed rather than just waiting for it to happen in Etsy's time. I had no idea what it was or how it helped, but I'm game for just about anything that will bring more views so I wrote the Help Desk and asked them to give my shop that feature.

They did it pleasantly, immediately, and completely. I didn't have to do a thing. They were very courteous about it. "Oh, sure! It's done. You don't have to think about it again."

Since it was activated, I have had double the views (normally get 20-30 a day and am now getting 40-100). Also several inquiries about items and (I think) 1-2 possible sales.

So I can't make any promises about what it does, but it's the only thing I did differently this week except renew some listings, and I have seen definite increases in visits to my shop.

Hmm - I'm already syndicated and I didn't even know it. :) As far as sales through Google searches, I believe I've had about 5.

It puts your items into the google shopping lists.

I get maybe 2-3 google views a day now from it...so it's not a Huge thing.

I wrote support once and they told me it would happen automatically. When I read again about this in the help section it said you had to have small sales and Sherry says here it takes 5 sales. I have 79 sales and nothing has happened! Well I guess I am off to email them again and ask them to do it this time and not just tell me it will come automatically! Even if it doesn't help that much every little bit does help.

Here are some notes from Etsy to may your listings Google friendly...

Google Product Search does not permit the following:

Mature content, as defined by Etsy. Mature item listings will not be submitted to Google Product Search.

Listing titles or descriptions with special characters like stars or hearts. When creating a bulleted list in a listing description, we recommend using hyphens or asterisks.

Listings with promotional or boilerplate text in the description, such as "free shipping." We recommend keeping information about shipping in your Shipping Profiles and your shop policies on your Shop Policies page.

Listings with "repeated and unnecessary use of punctuation, capitalization or symbols."

Duplicate listings. This includes listings from accounts on other marketplaces that submit items to Google Product Search.

I requested syndication on this thread, and received it within *minutes* (pretty incredible response, if you ask me!): http://www.etsy.com/teams/7720/bugs/discuss/9649813/page/56

However, I'm not sure if my shop and listings actually meet the criteria... (which are a little unclear to me, regardless of how many times I read them).

And also, I don't see any indication on my shop page or profile that it has been syndicated. Maybe that takes a minute to reflect changes, but I read somewhere that there will be a label that says your shop is syndicated.

My shop has been syndicated...not sure for how long though. I don't think it has made a difference for my shop. I haven't had a sale in a couple of months and my views have dropped. I don't get a lot of views from Google either.

I just found out about this too! I sent a note to etsy admins asking to set me up. I'll report back if i see a lift. I already do fairly well with google traffic, so i'm crossing my fingers that it will get me even more...
