What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

I thought that was for promoting somebody else items. Do not get it!

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

Some buyers use it as a way to mark items they are interested in so they are easy to find. They keep it private because they don't want others to see their possible purchases.

I think people keep them private until they are ready to publish, kind of like a "draft"?

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

I've been told that some people make a private treasury to use as their personal wish list, or they send the url link to their friends and use it as a gift registry.

Maybe it is a wish list? Since Etsy only has wedding registries, and perhaps they are having another type of celebration. Some people really enjoy creating Treasuries, but don't want to get all the emails (which are against TOUS but still happen ALL THE TIME anyway) from seller with coupon codes.

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

Etsy instantly updates people who have been included in a treasury list, as soon as you hit the Save button. Often I hit save if I am just saving a work in progress... This involves a layer of guilt if I later remove someone from the treasury, they've already been informed of their inclusion.

Especially considering the fact that Etsy shows "featured" and "curator" badges on the avatars for those who are commenting on a treasury, its weird to see a post from someone saying "Thanks for including me" and they aren't actually included in the final product :(

It can get.... awkward. Keeping something private until you're ready to show the world reduces these sort of Etsy faux pas.

At least, that's my idea behind private treasuries.

I never thought of using a private treasury for a wish list! I just use the registry for myself anyway!

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

Well, I was thinking to changing my faves to private as I am a seller and a lot of my fave items are umm, morbid. I dont really want a nice lady interested in buying a gorgeous cross necklace from me, going to my profile and seeing a horrifyingly disturbing altered doll or something. It would probably be a real turn off. That could be another reason! You never know!

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

I use my favorites to mark items I want to buy in the near future. I will want to buy an item, then I go through all the different choices here and favorite the ones I could see myself buying, then buy from my favorites. I don't favorite items to promote them.

As for private treasuries, it could be the same thing. Someone wants to create a group of items to mark for themselves. Maybe a treasury of christmas presents for family, or something like that.

I use private treasuries as a draft, since I don't always have the time to fill up all 16 spots in one go. :)

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

I think favorites are the way to save items you would like to buy later.
Or items you really liked and you wan't to show your support. I don't think it was meant for promotion though many people use it that way.

As for fav shops, I think the main reason to make it private is to avoid those mails from sellers who are sending you coupons and emails just because you liked their shop. Sometime people just don't get that even if someone liked their shop it doen't mean he wants to be added to their mailing list.. :(

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

I keep my favorites private. I feel like today we all share WAY too much information in such a public forum. I don't really care to share everything about myself with just anyone in the world ...

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

I once saw a near-EXACT replica of one of my handmade items in a search and followed up by attempting to see if she(he) had favorited this item in order to later draw "inspiration" from it, (I'm being generous here...) Her favorites were hidden. Hmm...Personally I've been in quite a few private treasuries and am optimistic that they are shopping lists! :)

i use my favorites to create treasuries or to mark as items i would love to purchase if money were no object or will purchase in future.

if your favorites are private then your favorite treauries will also automatically be private...not sure why.

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

I've always understood that Private Treasuries are treasuries in progress, not ready to be published yet. Sometimes it takes a while for people to finish them.

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

I don't know about private treasuries, but I keep my favorites private because it's easier than bookmarking shops I'm interested in. Or, I might be sourcing supplies for my hats and don't need the world to know where I get everything. :)

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

All of these sound like possibilities. I was kind of stumped when I saw my newly posted item in a private treasury as well . . .

Re: What is the idea behing private Favorite or even private Treasury

I kept a private treasury in my other shop (jewelry) as a shopping list for supplies. I would place items next to each other in the treasury to see how they looked together. One day there was an Etsy glitch and all private treasuries became public. Mine was only about half full and it had several items from the same shop. The shop owner made a comment on the treasury to the effect of "wow, I've never had so many items in one treasury!" I was embarrassed but I contacted her privately and told her it was supposed to be a private treasury for my personal use. After that I never made another private treasury. I use Shmetsy now. You can save it as a draft and it doesn't revert back to the date you originally saved it when you publish it, unlike Etsy's draft mode.
