What is the easiest way to give a newbie a discount?

I was wondering what would be the easiest no hassle way for someone new to Etsy to receive a discount? I am also a buyer on Etsy and have used coupon codes, reserved listing and have received refunds from paypal. I'm just thinking that it would be easier to have the option of a "dollar discount" along with the "percent" and "free shipping" options when setting up a coupon code. Think this may be possible in the near future?

For free shipping, can you remove the shipping profile from the item in question? Never tried it, but I thought that's what others did to do free shipping promotions.

Agree that coupon code options would be wonderful... as would Etsy gift certificates.

Since I already offer free shipping I just enter zeros for US & Everywhere Else under the ships to cost section. Not sure how this would work withusing the free shipping coupon code......
