What is the benefit to renewing posts?

I've read on several other posts that a good way to promote your shop is to renew listings. What is the benefit of this since the listings are already active? Do newer listings show up more frequently?

Sorry for the basic questions I'm still a newbie :)

Great question! Renewing items is a great way to keep your shop visible in the searches both the Recency and Relevancy searches. I renew one or two items (usually my oldest listings) everyday. It really keeps my views up. Best of luck on Etsy!

I hope your shop is successful! One way to increase the number people looking at your shop is to renew your listings frequently.

As NeatoKeen said, it keeps your shop visible and generally gives your shop stats and views a bit of a boost.

If you decide to do this, make sure you got it calculated into your profit margins.
Because it costs 20 cents every time you do it.
Most successful shops get along fine without renewing listings that are not about to expire.
SEO and good marketing is the way to go!

I only renew when the items are within 7 days of expiring and even then, I only do a couple of items per day.

It does help to keep the shop looking fresh when you may not have new listings to add to the shop.

Like BeaG said, good SEO and marketing are the best way to be seen and get sales. I seldom renew anything. I usually only renew after an item expires (and I've revamped by updating tags, titles, descriptions, and sometimes photos on the listing). Every now and then, maybe one a week or two, I will renew an item when I see it hasn't sold in a while and normally it sells more frequently.

But that also depends on your item category. If there are many other buyer options for the same type of product as yours, and recency is more of a factor for your category, then you'd need to renew more often.

Personally the ONLY time I renew a listing is when its about to expire.

And then before renewing I'll take a good look at the title, photos and tags to see if they can be improved upon.

Renewing really doesn't matter when it comes to people finding your items as long as it has good titles, especially for outside searches.

Personally I'd suggest to renew your items only when they are about to expire. To renew costs $0.20 same cost as to add a new item. So if your aim is to keep your shop visible in the searches both the Recency and Relevancy searches, why not add a new item instead of renewing a current item. This way you are offering a larger selection to your prospective clients, and you are increasing chances of sale.

Doesn't that make more sense? That's just my opinion :)

I agree with the most recent posts and 100% agree with Ooh-la-la Beadtique. i don't find it a wise (and cost effect) marketing plan to spend the money on renewing.

you might not be able to find a customer for item within 4 months so you renew it and give it another try. i´ve had items that have been in my shop for more than a year and then someone came and bought it and is as happy as can be with it. and it keeps your shop full!
