I am a renaissance woman and I like to create a little of everything - hence the random assortment of items in my shop. I started with jewelry and have wandered off... I'm afraid of committing to jewelry alone. What do I do with all of the other lovely things I create? ; )

Maybe I need a shop titled "Everything But the Kitchen Sink" or "The Junk Drawer"... Joking.

Re: What if I like to sell random items?

In most cases, I'd probably recommend sticking to a theme--maybe not all jewelry, jewelry and other types of adornments--but your store has such a distinct voice and unique style, I say put whatever you want in there. The people who like one thing in your shop are truly bound to like all of it. In fact, I'm going to favorite your shop right now!

Re: What if I like to sell random items?

If you don't want to become a 'walmart' but want to delve into everything, I would suggest finding a connection that links all of these objects together. Perhaps it is the style of objects, or that all the home decore, jewelry and accessories are all "cottage chic" themed. Perhaps it is the color choices of your products.

You want your customers to always know when they see an image of your product that it's 'your product'. That they can instantly tell which artist it belongs too. This you can create by having similar themed backgrounds and the angle you use for your photos - or perhaps a regular model. This way you are creating a brand, even though it includes all different kinds of things.

If you find that a line of your work is too separate from the rest, create a new shop =)

Re: What if I like to sell random items?

Thank you everyone for the encouragement and advice! It lifts my spirits to know that I'm not alone in this pickle. After reading all of your comments I think I can sum up your advice into the following:

- Feel free, especially in the beginning, to explore and experiment to your hearts' content. You don't have to have it all figured out!

- Find your voice. Style and photograph your items in way that communicates that voice.

- Never stop creating and growing.

- Take a breath. Some things will sort themselves out in time.

Perhaps I'll think of my shop as a book with the shop sections as its chapters...I love a good story!

I feel refreshed, ready to embark on the next adventure. Now if only I could make some sales to fund some of these adventures...
