What goes into an effective Facebook page?

I'm going to set up a Facebook page for my newer etsy shop. I don't want to burn out my friends by setting up two at once, so kickglass will stay off facebook for now. What should I do to make it an effective sales tool? Show everythng? Coupons? What works for you? What doesn't?

Re: What goes into an effective Facebook page?

Hi I had a facebook account for 6 months before I got the hang of it & now I try to do regular posts of what I am selling. Offers & freebies for fans help to upsell. One thing I did learn recently is fans like to know your human. I don't know if you get where I'm coming from but I found that when I just posted lists of things I got very little feedback but then I might add a quirky status of something that inspired me that day & since ithen I find that I get feedback & questions on prices etc & definately had sales linked to my facebook. Also fans will recommend their friends too. Hope that helps each facebook is different but I found that mine has grown over the last few months & I really enjoy it. One other thing i also do is add links to my pictures when I post so people can go striaght to the product. Cheers Rache

Some of your posts are repeats. Are these ones that other people shared?

Re: What goes into an effective Facebook page?

Maybe someone can help me in this one... I have asked this question in three different threads.... I really want to kick off my FB page but when I post on others pages my personal FB name and pic shows up instead of my Thyme Forgoten Treasures name and pic... How do I change this

And my old Etsy banner is showing up in the Etsy tab instead of the new banner... Im just about to delete the whole page and start over before I get too many "likes"....

H

Re: What goes into an effective Facebook page?

thyme-if you look on the right side of your FB business page, under where it lists the Admins, there's a tab/line that says "Use Facebook As XXXX". Click on this & then you can post on other business pages & your business name shows up. I don't think you can post on people's personal pages with it though-FB automatically sees it as spam.

Re: What goes into an effective Facebook page?

Hi yea they you can put them into hidden. It depends on the day to day activity. If a lot of sharing with friends goes on then it will show up on the front page but you can change settings so that anything goes into hidden boxes. If I'm busy I leave them but then when i list they move down to older posts. Like I said it's personal preference really. I do take of any one who over advertises on my page its facebook rude to just put a massive advert on without asking but touch wood that has only happend once. The tagging etc dos seem to take up space but I got an extra 30 fans from it this week with people sharing with friends so I am very grateful. Cheers Rache

Re: What goes into an effective Facebook page?

I have just started mine, I have been sharing photos of work in progress, random updates about my day to show there is a person there! And also posting about my etsy favorites, favourite pages on facebook, and a daily inspirational art quote.

I also have it set up to tweet automatically whenever I post something. I try not to put too many new listings up as I think it seems really selfish. A pic of your latest listing is better in my opinion, just to show what you have made and if a fan likes it they can find it in your shop (link in your profile) or ask you more about it.

I like to try and imagine my posts appearing in other peoples feeds and what I would like to see :-)

Posting your page in teams is a good way you get exposure (again not in a spammy way....) and you can like other people's pages and get likes too. I have been marketing my page for less than a week and have 70 likes so I am finding it quite exciting!

Oh- something weird I found out a while back- if you want to 'like' someone's page, you need to do it from your personal page for it to count on their total. So make sure you are logged in correctly of you're sharing the <3 I then post on their wall as my page so they know where to find me if they want to see my page! (and anyone else on their page can see you too- so again don't leave a huge add, your name to click on with an interesting specific compliment on the page you are on should be enough)

A good way to get even more exposure is for pages to share other pages so their fans and friends can see and hopefully visit and like. Hopefully if you share someone's page they will return the favour! There is a lot you can be doing!! I think it can definitely be worth it though as lots of established pages say they get a large proportion of their sales through friends seeing them on facebook!

Wow sorry for long post and I am really not an expert, didn't realise how much I had learned in a week!!

My page if you want a look: www.facebook.com/JoArtyJo

There are also lots of facebook teams on here :-)

Re: What goes into an effective Facebook page?

We like to use our facebook page as a way not only to show what we sell but as a way to show our custom orders. We strive to do more custom decor so it fits with indiviuals personal style so when others can see our varity of what we are capable of that helps. So I guess what I'm saying is use varity and be personal but cohesive!
