I wanted to share my latest blog post, I wrote it in regards to your twitter profile pic, but I think it will help in regards to Etsy, Facebook, etc. as well!!

Interesting post -- I've only recently started using a personal photo from FB in lieu of a product-related avatar, and I think it definitely makes me feel like I'm making a more human connection with people on Etsy .... that said, taking a second look at my picture now it's clear I'm also showing the world how rarely I like to comb my hair.

Gr8findings---I feel the same:) I think its great to make a human connection, that way you can see who you are connecting with. It may not be appropriate for all profile pics, but I always like to relate, connect, and trust the person I am tweeting with and seeing their face is a HUGE factor in that:) Alot of us are so visual:) And your hair looks fine:)

madebymada, I am in no way an expert...so definetly try different things, personally I LOVE your profile pic, it makes me want to see more of your product!

I use a product pic . . . I have read pros and cons for both, so I guess it's what works for you. My shop name really doesn't reveal exactly what my product is, so for me I think it is better to have a product pic :)

I agree, profile pictures of people definitely have an effect. Sometimes positive and sometimes negative.
I am sometimes nervous to use my own picture because I am younger and don't want people to discredit my talent because of my age....

I finally bit the bullet and posted a personal photo on both Etsy and FB. While I like the personalization of a photo, I would love it if I could just use it on my Etsy profile page and use a brand graphic or product pic as my avatar. If there's a way to do this, please share.

It will be interesting to see what the consensus is - product, graphic or personal pic.

amysewsit, I would go for it! If they discredit you, maybe they weren't meant to be your customer:)! I have alot of young friends on etsy that are VERY successful!!

Andersonbraid, i really like your pic! You could use photoshop or picnic to put together a photo of you with your product or logo, if you know how to use it:) That is still on my list of programs to learn:)

- i wouldn't worry about potential buyers passing you by because of your age. use it to your advantage!

-i think you've just helped me to decide. i am well intentioned, friendly and calm - but i think for now, a product shot will be a better choice for Etsy.

About a year ago I read an Admin post that said to use a product photo.
I feel that it depends on what you are going for in your personal brand.

In any case, I feel that if you do use a personal picture, it is important that you yourself LIKE it and are proud to display that in every media you use!

There are so many ways to look at things, and ultimately it boils down to what your personal BRAND is what you are envisioning.

As a creature of perpetual change, I decided to try the personal pic avatar after reading this post.
I've been feeling more and more like I want to simplify all of these platforms and uniting all my "personas", pages and such seems a good start.

I am ALWAYS learning and looking for ways to improve and, of course, grateful for any constructive criticism

My shop banner changes every couple of weeks, just like my interest and product listings, so maybe it's a positive change in that at least people know it's still me...
