What are wholesale minimums?

Do you set a minimum order in number of items or price? And what are your minimums to make it worthwhile? Thanks

For my items, I set a minimum number of items PER item, because I bake in batches. I can't exactly make 3 of one thing if the pan makes 12, you know? Not cost-effective, especially for wholesale.

For my bath & body shop, it was a minimum order of $150 to get my wholesale prices.

I have only done it a couple of times but I do it in increments like:
1-100.00 8%
101.00.- 250.00 10%

just an example.

I do a minimum number of an item and it is also dependent on the amount of money spent. For a recent order I did 10 of each headband she ordered, but had an option for her to order just 7 of each because she would have been spending $250. I keep it open and relative to what the customer is thinking. :)

I do a minimum number of ornaments (at least 20 or approximately $360)... but because of the time each one takes to make I am unable to offer traditional wholesale.

What discount do you typically give for wholesale? I've heard different things. I was thinking 20% for me to make it worthwhile. Is that too little?

I asked that question separately in a different post and most people were saying about 50%, not the greatest news.

I do 30% for wholesale and most businesses are accommodating. I guess it just depends on who your end retailer is a whether or not you think it's beneficial to you and your business... sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't.

Thanks Andi! I guess it depends where we sell our items at now. 50% for me would mean I was working for free or below minimum wage so that's not worth it.

When I was selling wholesale I did a minimum purchase amount in dollars.

As for wholesale price. The key to making what you need to wholesale is to price yourself right from the beginning. The typical mark up is to take your costs(materials, time, packaging, etc.) and double that. That is your whole sale price. Double again and you have the retail price.

I don't do much wholesale but when I do I set a minimum at 500$ and I give 30%. I think the most important thing is to figure out a clear policy and announce it beforehand, that way people are free to make a proposal knowing what you'll take.
