What about that "Fine Jewelry" section?

Hi everyone.
I notice that if you click on the Jewelry category on the Etsy home page it brings you to the next page with refined categories. At the top there is a "Fine Jewelry" category.

How on earth do you get your item listed under this category????? When listing an item, I don't see the option anywhere so who decides to put an item there?

Its all about what Etsy selects for a specific category.

I've got a Fisherman's sweater that's appeared in the Women's section, the Trending section, the Kids section and the Art section over the past year.

I can understand it being in the Women's section but I have no idea why it would ever be put in any of the others.

That's what I figured. Some programmed algorithm that's not entirely accurate. Thanks for the input.

Some of my metalsmith teammates were showing up well when there was a true Fine Jewelry section, and we theorized some of it had to do with price. Your stuff SHOULD be showing up in there, if it were based on that, obviously. I've got a few pieces that, based on that theory, should be in there, but they're not.

If I knew what bit of unicorn dust I needed to sprinkle on my shop to make Etsy admin love me, I'd do it.

I need some too… I'm finding it hard to stay motivated to list new things when I get three views a day and have only had 9 sales in almost a year. I'm told my things are nice… maybe Etsy has just gotten too big. Any thoughts, suggestions, criticisms… I'm open to anything!

Pamela, your photos look a little dark like they were taken under artificial light. Use natural light if you can. And I saw that your beer cap earrings are shown on a model, but that will turn some people away because they don't want earrings that have been worn. And that picture is blurry. Never post blurry pics, a buyer can't tell what the item looks like and it's unprofessional.

Also the more items you have the more chance you have of getting found. I didn't have time to look at the tags for more than two items. One looked good, but for the other one you didn't use all 13 tags which you want to be sure and do. Use multiple word tags and match your title to your tags.

I agree. I'm shocked that page after page I can't find one of my items under "fine jewelry". Even 14K gold and diamonds!

Seems like a complete waste of Etsy space if the category isn't maintained in a sensible manner.

Perhaps, I'll try to find an Etsy admin to question over this.....

Fine jewelry was anything over $200. Several of my art pieces were in that category, I thought they discontinued it awhile back though.

It's a sub-Browse section under the Jewelry browse section, Dana. They sort of reinstated it, but not the way it was before.
