What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I thought it might be nice to have everyone post their favorite photo editing software here with some details to help others decide what they want to try.

Please post:

- The name and/or URL of the software you use
- How much one must pay to purchase / download it
- One thing you like about it
- One thing you don't like about it

I'll go first! :D

http://Paint.net
Cost: FREE!
Like: It works very much like Photoshop elements in most things.
Don't like: It does not handle text very well - when you edit text and then click elsewhere, the text flattens and then you can't do anything with it after that. Delete and start over. :(

Now I use Photoshop Elements 9
Cost: On sale for about $80 including video editing software
Like: Auto correct works great for most things
Don't like: Fairly steep learning curve if one isn't already pretty familiar with Photoshop

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

Thanks for posting this! I had to run a sale just to use the pre-made banner from Etsy until I could revamp mine (it got deleted during editing).

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

Here's my info:

Name: Adobe Photoshop Elements 8

Cost: I bought it on Ebay for about $40

Like: You can customize quite a bit, but have the option to use pretty trusty auto correction. And it's a quality, yet affordable option to Photoshop.

Don't Like: As imakecutestuff said, there is a learning curve. I've been using it for years and still feel like there are secrets yet to discover.

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use Photoshop CS 4.
I don't know how much it cost because it was a gift from my parents when I became a graphic design student.

Like: Well I am a big fan of Photoshop. You can create grat stuff with it.
But for photo editing, I think the sharpen feature is really great.
I like also the way it manages the cropping feature. It's very simple.

Don't like: I agree with imakecutestuff and mondaymornings, first you are lost but It's great with a little bit of practice!!

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use a very old version of Photoshop (five, I think), but it was free from a friend, so the price was right. :)

Like: I am a huge fan of Photoshop because it has so much to offer. I use it to edit my photos, create a banner for my store, design a logo, make artful images for Facebook, and more. Photoshop allows me to be as fussy as I want with an image, or to just make quick and simple changes.

Don't like: As the others have said, Photoshop is hard to figure out at first, so I would highly recommend checking out a book or two from the library to help you learn the software. Although I have used it for years I am still learning new ways to use the features!

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

very good post

PhotoScape

http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php

it is free!

I like everything about it, apart:
I don't like that there is no version for Mac :(

I would advice everyone who feels confused with Gimp and Photoshop to download and use it, this is different :)

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I'm personally a fan of Google'd Picasa, mostly because it's free! What I like is the "I'm feeling lucky" button that does a great job of brightening up pictures. What I DON'T like is that it IS somewhat limited, does not have nearly as meany features as Photoshop does.

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use Adobe Photoshop and Camera RAW to edit my pictures. Camera RAW is a small program that comes as an extension to Photoshop, so it's at least free. These programs are great because you get all the editing capabilities as the professionals! (this is one of the programs that photographers, graphic desiners etc. use) The downside is that Adobe Photoshop is pricey. For strictly editing photos, I'd go with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. It's $299, but you can always use it as a tax deduction for your etsy business!

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

Picasa! I tried GIMP but it was super glitchy on my computer. I don't really need to do more than Picasa offers but it would be nice to have photoshop! I just like playing around with that.

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use Picassa and fotofuze, but I am going to try photoscape. Lost my job a year ago so I will need to do free for now. :-) Photoshops programs do amazing things from what I have seen.

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use photoshop and picassa.
Love the editing in picassa, it is free and simple to use
http://picasa.google.com/

BUT I cant resize my giant pictures in pixels off of picassa - so I jump to photoshop to reduce to 1000x1000.

I like Picnik.com. I have photoshop cs5 but I find Picnik less of a hassle. I'm going to try Camera RAW with my next batch of photos.

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use photoshop 8 ..and sometimes inkscape
Inkscape is free but can be quiet difficult to learn
if you don't have the time to do the introduction stuff.. which you really do have to search for.... but once you learn it it is pretty awesome... just like photoshop but like i said free

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

Great idea for a post!

I use a few different photo editors, depending on my mood & what I want to do with the photos.

Mostly I use Paint.net & Photoshop Elements 7

I got Photoshop Elements for free with my Bamboo drawing pad for my birthday last year, so no cost for me :)
I like that both are advanced, but still simple to use.

Otherwise I use sometimes use Picasa, I like the collage function they have & I sometimes use the free Picnik on Flickr for quick fixes.

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use Gimp (the program with the oddly chosen name)

I got it for free! yay.

I like that there are lots of free add ons from generous people who offer their brushes. I like that it is all free and still does pretty much everything photoshop does.

Con is of course the steep learning curve as someone else put it. There is still so much I don't know how to do.

On the other hand I'm learning and I have managed to get better and better in the last month.

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use picassa for major editing and cropping, and one that's done, I go back through my photos with paint and resize them. Double work, but I've gotten the hang of it, so it goes pretty quickly once I get on a roll.

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use PhotoImapact version 8 from Ulead and have done for many years. It is more than a photo manipulation program because you can create original digital art. There are a couple of amazing support forums and a free "school."

It cost me $80.00 and has been well worth the investment and more. I have not yet begun to stretch its capabilities. I have used the gif animator which I understand does not come with the newer versions being sold by Corel. I think Corel bought out Ulead just so they could kill the software. :(

Drawbacks: Crappy help file.

Re: What Photo Editing Software do you use?

I use Photoshop CS5 because I'm most comfortable with it.

A free tool that I like the best is Picnik. Really easy to use and clean.

I'm a Photoshop addict and I love everything about it :) The only negative thing about it is that it is a bit pricey...
