What Kinds of Ornaments...

... are popular these days? What would you personally buy (if you buy ornaments)?
I'm trying to expand my line and want to know what are popular themes for kids and teens.

Thanks!

Re: What Kinds of Ornaments...

Personally, I like ornaments in basic xmas colors: red, green, and white. Right now I'm looking for red and white ornaments that have a classic look to them are also unique in some way.

I like ones I can pull out year after year and yet they still look...trendy? Classic? Nothing that makes you say 'wow, obviously I bought this in 2012; yuck!'

Re: What Kinds of Ornaments...

I'm trying to make more Christmas ornaments. Right now, my White Christmas dove is a bit lonely in my shop.

I might make it in red *cardinal* and blue *bluebird* but I'm trying to get scarves made.

I don't know what's popular, so I'm not much help.

If you have any big department stores around you go have a look at their holiday/ornament selection that will give you loads of ideas. The classics are always going to sell to - silver/gold/whte/green/red. That being said I've sold more blue ornaments than anything else!

Re: What Kinds of Ornaments...

I'm a big fan of Target and the last few seasons they've sold a lot of these glittery snowflake ornaments. They come in all different colors - classic red, green, silver, gold; and also neon yellow, magenta, and rainbow glitter. I bought quite a few and every time I went for more they seemed to be sold out of most colors.

Re: What Kinds of Ornaments...

P.S. Owls are super popular with teens now and I see you have a few penguin items so maybe branch out to owl ornaments?

Re: What Kinds of Ornaments...

I think owls, birds, and woodland creatures are very "in"...right now I have traditional themed Xmas ornaments, but also have some quirky stuff in the works.

Re: What Kinds of Ornaments...

Looking at what you make, I think it would be cute to do a couple sets of mini ornaments for those little tabletop trees or houseplants. You could do themed sets like "traditional", "whimsical", "children", "food"... even hipster or "Etsy trends" (an owl, a narwhal, a generic bird, a mustache, etc) if you want to be really niche. Just a thought. :)

Re: What Kinds of Ornaments...

I personally like cute & quirky ornaments. Bright colors are great, but unless they come in sets I don't gravitate to them as much. I also like it when they're relatively small in size so they aren't too overpowering on my tree.

Re: What Kinds of Ornaments...

In my kidsstore, the most popular fabrics include for boys; robots (my biggest seller), trucks, race cars, trains (Thomas), tractors, skateboards, snowboards, camoflage, skulls, jungle animals, and Legos. Apparently the most popular superheros are the standy by Batman and Spiderman plus any of the Avengers.

Girls seem to like princesses (my second largest seller), tiaras, tutus, ballet shoes, horses, unicorns, owls, cats, penquins, turtles, tree frogs, jungle cats, cheer leading, gymnastics, hearts, peace signs, rainbows, and cell phones (with words like LOL and BFF). Girls are also into things mystical and supernatural.

I've had moms decide on one thing, but the kids went with something totally different. I try to gear my fabric choices to the things the kids want. About half of my customers opt for things licensed, but the other half do not their kids focused on so much commercialism.

Oops, that should be standby (not standy by) and do not want their kids (not do not their kids). Doesn't pay to hurry or pay attention to someone else while typing. LOL
