twitter tip! when you are starting out, find someone you admire with a lot of *followers* and follow them. they will more than likely *follow back* and you can build a base. that way, more people can find you! and remember to retweet and mention often!

Great idea :)

As a seller and a buyer, the most important thing to me is that there is more conversation going on than promotions. No one wants to follow someone who self-promotes all the time! But I do like to follow my favorite sellers and be up to date with their newest listings. So far, Twitter has been a great way for me to connect with people who love vintage and handmade items as much as I do. Getting traffic to my shop is an awesome by-product! :)

Re: What Are Your Top Tips for Twitter & Facebook?

show your face. people want to know you.

engage with people first. then talk about yourself second.

twitter is a cocktail party...facebook is a dinner party. people are looking for light casual conversation. they are more likely to follow you, talk back to you and re-tweet you if you reciprocate.

it's kind of an 80/20 rule. 80% about others .... 20% about yourself.

and give them good content. they don't want to know what you had for dinner...well, some of my peeps do, but that's only b/c i'm a dinosaur on twitter :)

Re: What Are Your Top Tips for Twitter & Facebook?

One of the best things for me has been to link up both to my blog and vice versa. The blog has helped out tremendously with both because it gives people a bit of a story behind the artist. I notice that when I follow people on twitter and they post a blog to twitter, I always click it and I love reading about what other's are doing besides advertising.

Don't promote yourself too often- tweet solid content about cool websites, articles, movies, books news or whatever you find interesting.

Also, don't post 20 tweets in a row- spread your tweets out throughout the day so that you reach a wide range of people and give people time to digest your tweets. Some of the worst Twitter offenders I've seen combine these 2 don'ts, they'll fill my twitter feed with 20 listings from their shop and it's really annoying. It turns customers off fast.

Re: What Are Your Top Tips for Twitter & Facebook?

I try not to post more than once a day on Facebook. I have removed many people from my feed because I am annoyed by them posting six things in a row...and all about new listings.

I agree with not posting about yourself all the time on both Twitter and Facebook. I try to mix it up with a fun new item or blog post that I've found every once in a while.

My Twitter, although linked with my shop, is a little more personal than my Facebook page. I try to be a lot more witty and fun on Twitter. Like TheBeadGirl said "twitter is a cocktail party...facebook is a dinner party."

Re: What Are Your Top Tips for Twitter & Facebook?

This is is a great discussion, because I've been trying to come up with ideas to engage my FB fans. Nothing great so far, plus I don't have much time right now.

I'm really interested to see what folks say about FB. Great thoughts thus far.

Re: What Are Your Top Tips for Twitter & Facebook?

What I've learned about Facebook is that even though it's easy to link to my blog posts from there or to my shop, it's much more effective to take a smidgen of that content and put it right on Facebook with a request for people's input. People like staying on the site.

I use the photo gallery often. People enjoy seeing new images of my work without having to leave the site.

Also uploading pictures for single posts is great because people tend to share those.

Re: What Are Your Top Tips for Twitter & Facebook?

I tweet instagram pics of my process for new products I will be launching, and inspiration I see or if I re-style a room in my house, etc. I think people really like to see "the man behind the curtain" and it can be interesting and inspiring for them. I know it is for me when I see my favorite designers tweeting pics of the homes, their projects and I personally even like to see what they are eating. If I can clearly see they have the same taste I do then it makes me even more excited to see their new products and I then I want everything they make, just because they made it and I then become one of their "1000 true fans" : http://www.kk.org/thetechnium/archives/2008/03/1000_true_fans.php

Re: What Are Your Top Tips for Twitter & Facebook?

I opened my twitter account without knowing much about their operation. I read a lot about social media and learned this:

- Always be polite

- To thank your followers

- If blogger, select any post that is your interest and retweet, comment.

- Leave any comments on her blog

- If have a shop, to congratulate for some of their products

- Interact, answer or laugh if necessary

- Give them a music video, get a laugh

- Publishing articles of interest to your target audience

- Be yourself, do not lie or misrepresent information, not copying anyone. be yourself!

- Be patient, build relationships

- Be consistent, always, even for a while.

These are my tips to consider for the moment. I want Twitter to build relationships, to know me, to go to my blog. All these long-term relationships will bring me sales are going to make another blog talking about me or my products. only sporadically publish any product of mine.

I hope you have understood me. excuse my English!
