Weebly?

I've been looking at starting a website, and just wanted to ask for opinions on Weebly. For those of you who use it, what are the pros and cons? Also, which plan do you use, and if you use the free one, what are the restrictions (if any) that bother you?

If you use something else, what is it, and why?

Feel free to link to your website as an example, but please NO PROMOTION! That said, I'd love to see your website too. :)

Re: Weebly?

I know Weebly has excellent customer service! It is not difficult to start a site there.

Re: Weebly?

Its free until you want to link it to your domain name. They make it look like its free, until you realy want something with it.

Good thing is, it is easy to use, and the templates are ok.
I made mine in Weebly

Re: Weebly?

I've just started using weebly. Not sure if I'm going to use it ultimately just for blog or also for promotion/sales. One thing I like is the ability to publish a site in progress. It allows me to start to build a following and gather feedback.

Re: Weebly?

I've had my site with them from the get go.
You don't need to put any money into it, unless you want to, but in some ways it is wise to. You can create your site with the weebly.com extension, but I think it's wiser to just pay for your own domain to avoid bad surprises down the road.
I ended up switching to a starter plan to add a footer and a few other features that I really needed, but I went with the free plan for a few months in the beginning.
I can only say good things about their customer service. They've always been very helpful and they get in touch with you relatively quickly.

Re: Weebly?

Hm, thanks for sharing! Since your comments seem positive, I'll definitely take Weebly into serious consideration.

Anyone else want to share their opinions? :)

Re: Weebly?

I jumped in with the business plan and scaled back to the free version after realizing that my sales were really coming through Etsy... Now I have a link from my website directly to my Etsy shop and it is so simple! Overall they are wonderful and I highly recommend.... But it does really depend on what you are looking for. To set up a full ecommerce shop, I would probably find an easier one for handmade sellers that can add comments and variations easier... But that's just me! Feel free to take a look and lmk if you have any questions!

Re: Weebly?

Marissa - just to check, are you still on the free version? I see you don't have the Weebly footer, but I thought you had to subscribe to remove that.

Lovely website, by the way!

Re: Weebly?

I'm looking to incorporate Etsy Mini onto a page... I would be quite eager if Weebly had an Etsy widget!

Re: Weebly?

Thank you so much Alicia!! I played around a bunch with the coding but they have a lot of great templates as well. I can't speak to Etsy mini because I haven't tried that. Yes I have the free version's.. Look further down on the website.....I added a large space so that the footer would have to be scrolled to :)

Re: Weebly?

Ah, that's awesome!

Hm, interestingly enough, I see the footer on other pages, but it's not there on the home page. I wonder if that has to do with your template...

Re: Weebly?

I use Weebly (www.VintageCravens.com) and have to say 'meh'...to do ANYTHING beyond a basic site with little or no images becomes a nickel and dime experience. Their customer support is based in India. I have had both good and not so good help when things go awry. I use their blog feature and have run into most of the bugs I have found there. I would recommend shopping around a little more before you sign up for a domain.

For Etsy mini - it works well, but the widget is not mobile optimized (this happens no matter who your provider is). I use the 2-3 column wide version and wrap content around it to fake it on a mobile device vs. desktop.

Best of luck to you!!!

Marissa

I see what you've done from time to time but I don't understand the benefit of having a domain and front page but then having only an Etsy store behind it. What does it get you?

Re: Weebly?

Just started pulling together a website on IndieMade. I love it. It's been very easy to use, and much more responsive and flexible than some of the others I tried out. I'm going to go with the pro ($15 a month) plan, so that I can list variations, and have more pages and up to 200 items in the store there. I'm quite pleased so far! I tried a few free versions elsewhere, but when all is said and done, this will work better for me.

Re: Weebly?

Hi Richard! I began with Weebly for Business, which included my own full ecommerce site. Within the first few months I realized how time consuming (considering my shop is open for roughly 4 months) having to update and configure my own ecommerce site was through Weebly.... So...I took it down. Now I direct people to my domain and they can shop through Etsy. This way, as I hopefully continue to grow my business, I will be able to add the ecommerce feature again (probably through a different platform), with the hopes that people will see more than just the Etsy page. Our website is currently directing a number of people to our Etsy page, so I can't complain!
