Website...YES or NO?

I have a website that I haven't touched in quite a while. Since I've opened my Etsy account, and also with my Facebook page, I haven't had time to update my website at all. I just got a notice that my .com is going to be expiring soon. It's really not costly to renew, so it's not a money issue, but I just haven't had the time to update it along with everything else I do online. There may be a day in the future that I could spend time updating it, but...I don't know. Do you think it's worth it to keep it or should I let it go? I'm really undecided.

Thanks for your consideration!

Re: Website...YES or NO?

I would keep it.
If Etsy disappeared it would take with it your whole trade (unless you sell on another website).

Re: Website...YES or NO?

I have two - one for this shop, and one for both my other two shops combined. I do it because I don't like having all my eggs in one basket. If Etsy decided my shops needed to be shut down (because of the weather, they don't like my hair, whatever) I have a place to go that's already established.

Keep it, and keep it up as best you can - you never know when you might need it.

Re: Website...YES or NO?

I too struggled with the same decision, and ultimately decided to get rid of my website. I was getting many many more sales and views through Etsy shop, it's really a great source for selling, and was then able to focus all of my time on making changes (still am) and keeping my shop at it's best.

Re: Website...YES or NO?

Keep hold of it- you might regret it is you let go of it and someone else decides to buy it instead. I've had 2 domains for about 3 years now and 1 domain for 2 years (which was a gift). I've not even got a website on the domains, but eventually, they will point to my etsy shop. It's a bit of a waste them just sitting there, but I'm not too bothered as they are fairly cheap.
Just been getting a mail account up and running for one of them so that I can get some business cards printed!

Re: Website...YES or NO?

I think your website is an important way of showing that you are legitamite and mean business even if it stays the same for a bit at least you have it.
Placing that much faith in etsy is risky there are already massive problems with search and the huge scale of it.
When you refer people to etsy you might as well forget the sales as they continue on into etsy and begin searching for similar creations or random other stuff. With your own site at least they are your customer in your shop!

I have a website facebook etsy o.m.g. its hard work but I hope to eventually onlyuse my site and facebook stop passing my customers onto others!

Thanks for all the responses! Sounds like it's unanimouse here, too. (I posted this same topic on another thread) and am having the same responses. This all makes sense to me!

Erin - Love your comment about "the weather, or they don't like my hair..." Too funny! ;)

Thanks for your time, everyone!
