Web Networkers, Please Share Your Ideas

I love the twitter topic thread, I've learned from it & still have some questions about Kaboodle, Stumble Upon, FB, Tumblr.... I often post treasuries to these, but wonder if it's helpful or hurtful, since I'm clueless about what I'm doing.

The whole web networking thing is a mystery to me. I hear that this is the best form of marketing, yet you don't want to be 'spamming' your followers. What does all of this mean? Does anyone know where I may educate myself on how to be a cyber networker with good manners?

:) Thanks

Re: Web Networkers, Please Share Your Ideas

Hmmm, I know there are sites around that talk about web etiquette and networking sites... but I suspect they tend to give conflicting advice :)

Personally, I like to follow people on twitter etc who have a mix of listings, chit chat, info about non-etsy stuff... a really general mix.

I'm not so keen when I click on a profile and it's a wall of links to listings.

Maybe think in a 1 in 5 way- one link to a new listing/treasury for every 5 tweets/blog posts etc about other stuff... the weather, what you had for lunch, news stories and the great blog you've found being good starting points.

Thinking about it, and being aware that you may appear 'spammy' is a great starting point! At least you're aware of the possibility :)

The only kind of networking that I do is blogging. I set up a twitter account a long time ago and never went back to it. I would haave no idea how to use it for business purposes. Perhaps its time to return to it. Here is the link to my blog.

Good questions. I have a Facebook fan page, and try to post to it a couple of times each day. I also use that page to "fan" other crafters, and we chitchat there. It's a good way to build a network of like-minded folks. And we give shout-outs for each others items, so the non-crafting fans see those as well.

I'm also on twitter as myself, and I use that to send out links a couple of times a day to my items or my shop.

I have a blog, where I talk about a variety of issues, and sometimes include info about what I'm working on or selling.

But I'm toying with the idea of setting up a blog specifically for my items, and separating that out of my personal blog.

I haven't really explored any of the other services like Tumbler, or Stumble Upon, but they're on my list to investigate.

I feel like I need to get my items out to a wider audience than just my friends and their friends.

Re: Web Networkers, Please Share Your Ideas

On Facebook and Twitter people choose to follow you, you're not forcing anything upon them with frequent updates. And if you're like me I check my FB on my phone all the time so I like seeing new updates. I try to post at least once a day on Facebook and I'm working on posting once a day for twitter as well. I'm also in the process of doing a mass email for updates on the brand, which will probably be monthly.

I follow some fashion designers on FB and they post multiple times a day. Also, I get emails from JCREW and they email me at least 3 times a day, now that's spammy!!

Good luck to you!!
