Waiting for payments?

Was wondering how many days, more or less, does it take someone to pay when they've purchased something from your shop?
I've bought several items on ETSY and always paid with paypal so it's instant..So it's pretty new for me for someone not to pay when they've "purchased" something.
Any comments, suggestions, ideas, experience?

How did they choose to pay? You can set it in your policies how many days they have to pay if they are using another option. I know the e check on paypal can take up to a week sometimes.

Actually, I'm not even sure. I was looking at my paypal account and I don't see any transactions pending etc and on the ETSY invoice I don't see anything. I'll wait a full week and see what happens.

I have to add that on my policies about the days. Didn't really think it could take that long. Thanks

I don't know much about E-Check, but one time on another place I sell even though it sold the item the transaction somehow got interuppted so the payment didn't show up, so they had to pay me dirrectly from their paypal to mine, so worked in the end, I would of refunded if the first payment came through, but never did show up.

Pandi, Right now you are only accepting paypal as payment, so payment should be pretty much instant.

The only time it would be lagging would be if it were an echeck payment. Even then, you will get a notification from paypal stating that the payment has been made by echeck and when to expect the funds to be available.

I would suggest that you make it a habit to log into your paypal account every time you make a sale to check the status of the payment. Please don't rely on any emails from paypal as sometimes they can go missing or be very late in arriving.

With Paypal you should really only wait a few hours. If they have a computer hick-up, there could possibly be a delay but normally people should pay immediately. You should not delay re-listings items that have not been paid for and I would not give it more than 24 hours. I would also write them a note shortly after, saying something like "Many thanks for your order. I see that you have not yet made a payment via Paypal. If you're having any problems, please just let me know." If they do not respond, then re-list.

Thank you crochet gal, I do log in pretty often especially the times I get a sale and the times before I buy anything on ETSY and there are no transactions, that is why i found it odd if someone 'buys' an item from my store but do not see any transaction on paypal.

@ Eureka, will definitely message the customer and then relist if they don't respond in 24hrs. Thanks so much for your help :)

I always send them a polite message with a link to their invoice saying something like "It appears as though you transaction was not completed. Here is your invoice. Please try again and let me know if you have any questions."

I don't understand this. I -cannot- purchase something without paying straight away, otherwise the order doesn't go through. Strange.

In truth, if someone doesn't pay right away I would contact them and let them know that you'll hold the item for X amount of days, but if payment isn't received by then the item goes back up for sale and the order cancelled.

It depends on how they paid. Personally, if I don't receive payment in 7 business days. I cancel the order. Which has happened.
