WHY??

Why do people think they invent something when they have no idea it has been around forever. I just saw a Christmas Ornament that I use to make 40 years ago and still have a couple. This person is selling the pattern and says "If you are planning to copy or reproduce to sell in your shop - DO NOT! I have found that most everything has already been made and maybe we rediscover it. When I think I have an original idea I search the internet for it and usually there it is. I don't think any of us intentionally copy others but maybe we do get ideas from them :)

Re: WHY??

I received an email the other day from a company(not related to etsy) selling a pattern that is free online. I know, because I've made it before. :(

Re: WHY??

Oh my, I agree. I have some victorian designs that I purchased from a book, in a bookstore, from a legit source and I see them for sale here on Etsy and other places. That's straight up reselling. It would be the same as me selling those designs that I purchased up for people to buy on here, I did not make them nor do I own the copyright. It's not the people that are purchasing these designs and using them in their work, the problem is those selling the designs as original clip art, when they are NOT made by them.

Also, if you are selling a pattern for something, I'm pretty sure that allows people to make them on their own, and sell the product they made. If you don't want people to copy your idea, then don't sell the pattern!

Re: WHY??

Sometimes it's a little funny...I sell crochet hats and have seen some patterns very like mine for sale, that I made myself, or got from a yarn wrapper, or a free yarn manufacturer website. I don't understand how they can rationalize selling something they put no work into, and act all entitled to any hat pattern that is free everywhere else. Ok, not funny.....irritating or frustrating is a better word.
