WARNING: Purchasing on Etsy!

On the 8th December I bought 2 different items from 2 completely different sellers on Etsy and I have been wondering when they will arrive. After looking into it, I tried to contact the sellers as they hadn't even been sent and they no longer exist!!! So they took money from people, didn't send and then closed down. They look legitimate as well and had been opened for a while with good feedback.

I'm so angry! Not just because I haven't received the goods, but because they are giving Etsy sellers a bad name.

How did you pay? You can still open a PayPal case or get a chargeback from your credit card company, if you used DC.

I am having a similar experience with an Etsy seller. I purchased an item on Dec. 18th (hoping I might still get it for Christmas). It was scheduled to ship on the 19th and the seller said in the product description that he ships as soon as he receives payment. It still hasn't shipped nor have my two messages been answered. The shop was put on vacation mode on the 20th. Now, I see in the feedback that other recent purchases never shipped. This is a shop with over 3,300 sales and close to 700 positive feedback. A lot of the positive feedback rindicates great communication from the seller and fast shipping. (I was kinda wondering if something tragic happened to the seller).

I am also very concerned that these negative experiences will drive customers away from etsy.

I had the exact same problem for the first time ever. Seller had good feedback. Is this some sort of new scam? I filed a paypal claim.

Oh, it's hardly new. I've seen this since I first joined Etsy. Some people just don't care about their customers. End of discussion.

Yikes! I am very sorry OP and others who are having bad experiences.
I hope that you know that nearly all of the million or so independent sellers on Etsy are conscientious and take pride in not only what they sell but also there customer service.

Really?! the lengths people go to be unscrupulous is just mind boggling. Smh, sorry for your unpleasant experience.

It could be an error with their shop. I had a shop that ordered from about a month ago whose shop was removed/disappeared for about a week. They could only be contacted through facebook. Now their shop is up and running smoothly again.

Just a side note, the other 30 things I ordered from etsy for Christmas all arrived so this is a fairly rare occurrence in the great scheme of things.

I wonder if this is one of the shops that had duplicate listings from multiple shops. I know Etsy was closing those shops down.
