Views vs Sales

I was wondering how strongly views correspond to sales. Do you find that to make a sale you have to have at least 50 views in a day? Is it 100, 1000? Is there no correlation at all? My views are going up slowly, but I'm still waiting on that first sale.
Thanks!

Re: Views vs Sales

Janel, I can only speak from personal experience. Since I play games on teams to promote my listings, my views and faves are often a result of team participation. Views are sort of like window shopping...I look at a lot of things in a store with no intention of purchasing. For that reason, I don't spend a lot of time even thinking about how many views I have. Instead, I try to focus on tags and photos for my listings and try to make sure that my product descriptions answer any questions the average shopper might need answered. Hang in there! Sales will follow if you focus on great products and believe in yourself and your products!

Re: Views vs Sales

Yeah I haven't seen any correlation whatsoever, really. I can have a week with hundreds of views and no sales and then a week with 20-30 views a day and a ton of sales. I think it depends on a number of factors. If someone has already seen your item, favorited it, or put it in the back of their head to return to, you may end up with a sale and little to no views. But if someone puts a link to one of your items on a blog or a forum or whatever, then you could end up with a ton of views just out of peoples' curiosity, but no sales. Statistically speaking, one should get an increase in sales with an increase in fews, but in actual principle I don't really see that happening. At least for me.

Re: Views vs Sales

Janel -- I saw you had one sale (maybe today)! Congrats!

It takes time to be found. My views are still low. I don't see any correlation but still like to have more views. Better than nothing! :)

Re: Views vs Sales

I'm like everyone else. I might have 10 views one day, get a sale, next day I'll have 80 views and no sales.

I think for me, I get a lot of my sales from other sites where I have my shop listed. I have gotten sales on patterns where people found me on a site called raverly, and I had received sales on my toddler capes from a blog that I have my site listed on. So people actually found me from other sources.

Re: Views vs Sales

I don't really keep an eye on my views but don't think I could really pick a view to sales ratio anyway since like everyone else they can be so varied!

Re: Views vs Sales

What I have noticed is that once I listed 150 items, I started getting both views and sales. I have been trying to list 200, but am only at 190. I think the more items you have - the more likely you will be found in search. I like to look at my stats to see what items people are looking at and have noticed that often times people never even searched for the item they bought. So the key must be just to get them to visit your shop and hopefully they will see something they just can't live without.

Re: Views vs Sales

In my shop I have noticed a direct connection between views and sales. The thing is that it changes constantly depending on the season. In my busiest seasons (Halloween and Easter) there are fewer views that lead to sales because people are looking to buy and do. In January I have a lot of people 'window shopping', especially around wedding stuff. I think people really do get engaged around the Holiday season and then brides are dreaming in January.

I usually only track sales, but when sales tank, there is a direct connection to my views being lower than normal for that time for year.

The more items you have listed the more likely you are to be found in searches and the higher your views will be. The one thing that has no connection to sales in favorites. The good thing about favorites is that it shows you what people are looking at and you can see what people are looking at from other shops if you go to their profile from a favorited item. That is the best thing about Etsy, researching what people are looking at is super easy! It's like having access to your target audiences 'dream or pinboard'.
