Uniform vs variety in thumbnail shots

I've been advised a handful of times now to have some of my thumbnail shots be the model photos and some the white background shots (I make jewelry). My worry is this: is it going to look disorganized or messy? Or is a bit of difference going to be a good thing? Should most items put the model shots first?

My photography is limited, unfortunately, and I can't actually take extremely awesome model shots. I've been just pointing the camera at myself wearing the thing and doing the best I can with it. And yet, it's been suggested, so they can't be that bad, right?

I've changed a handful now...how does it look? Messy or just the right variation?

How does everybody else organize their photos?

Re: Uniform vs variety in thumbnail shots

I don't have a lot of variety in my photo backgrounds, but I do try to pick the best picture out of the bunch for my thumbnail. I like how your shop looks right now. Just my opinion, but I think if you have the same background for every shot, my eyes tend to glaze over and look at the first interesting picture. Think of a jewelry shop. They have some necklaces laid out, some on a bust. They have a variety of how they display their necklaces.

I like the ones that you have laying on the white background better. :) I think they look really great!

Re: Uniform vs variety in thumbnail shots

I love the items you make!! I've been having the same problem about uniform shops.. i've tried to make all my nails more uniform and it works now. I think your shop is perfect! The white wood backgrounds are stunning, with the odd model in a plain black top dotted around i think looks fine, almost breaks it up, i don't think you need to change it, though I'm only a newbie at all this haha :)

Re: Uniform vs variety in thumbnail shots

When I use the "model" as my main picture the photos are taken on the same background to give my shop the cohesive look. Granted I only use those main shots on my bracelet but I'm thinking that if you wear the same color as your background it should still look the same...
