Two shops……?

Hi everyone,

Our little shop isn’t doing well as we hoped. Time is a big issue…..as we are just so busy with our other jobs, ugh…. Anyhow, long story short-currently, we have the theme going on our shop. Dolls and handmade pouches made with the same fabrics. Now, we need to add more items so we are thinking about adding our paintings and drawings as that’s actually what we do. But they are very different nature from the dolls….they are oil paintings and charcoal drawings-more of fine art stuff. As much as we want to add them-we are also worried overall theme of the store. Would you suggest we open up another shop just for paintings and drawings to keep up with the theme? Or with already limited time we have-would this worth it? I think ‘marketing’ here isn’t easy as we thought it would be….

Any comments will help! ;)

Thanks!

Re: Two shops……?

Well if you said you already have a hard time keeping up with one shop, then don't do two becuase it is twice the work. I have 3 shops, 3x the work. But maybe if you are going to slowly switch to only paintings then it might be worth it. I am currently doing that, Im trying to sell out my rachinator87 shop so i can switch to my new name which is www.customhemptreasures.etsy.com. Good luck!

Re: Two shops……?

First off, your stuff is cute! Don't get discouraged. Your stuff is arty, so you would probably be fine to add other type of artwork to your store, like rachinator87 said, more stores, more work. It might attract more and different interest to your work. Here is one of the biggest "secrets" to marketing on Etsy; and that is that your stuff appears at the top of the search engine results on the first day you post it, then gets further and further down the list as the days go on. Some of your current stuff is probably on page 87 by now; where hardly anyone will find it! So here's my point, and a big time saver too; only post one or two new items a day, not all at once. Each new post is like a little ad on page one, attracting new people to look at your store. Also having more items works. That Etsy Success newsletter is awesome for more involved marketing advice; Etsy offers endless tutorials and tells you everything you want to know. I love it!

Re: Two shops……?

I split my items up into three shops about a month or so ago, and I think it was a really good decision, even though I haven't had a lot of time to invest into the new shops yet.

I feel like splitting them up makes it more focused and easier for people to become fans. Aside from the extra logging in and logging out, I haven't seen much of a downside to it yet.

Good luck!

I have 2 and it took me a long time to decide because I thought it would be too much work but I am so happy I did it.It allows you to be cohesive and that seems to work.

I have two now as well, and it is more time... but I think worth it. You have such a nice feel to your shop right now it is hard to imagine paintings in with it all. However, it might not hurt to try it out?

Re: Two shops……?

I think your shop is so adorable! I just opened a second shop (this one!) where I've been trying to learn from my mistakes in the old one. :)

What I've learned in the past two weeks is RENEW RENEW. I had no clue before...

Now that I renew around every hour (and I did a major overhaul on everything!) I have made 20 sales between the two shops this month already and I usually only make about 3!

Good luck! I LOVE the horses...

Re: Two shops……?

I opened a second shop for a completely different line of products -- and its definitely more work. I'm not really enjoying it and I'm impressed with sellers who can keep up with two or more (wow!) shops. I don't think I'd recommend it.

On a separate note, renewing is the best and cheapest (I think) way to ensure your products stay top of mind. I renew three items everyday -- one in the morning, one at lunch, and one in the evening. It only costs 60 cents a day and brings me around 100+ extra views -- plus my flowers end up in more treasuries.
