Twitter

I have a question about twitter.
I just do not know how it works. How people find you, what makes them click on a tweet. I tried it today and have lots of views but I don't see the thrill of just clicking on a random link. Am I missing something?
This may have been asked already a 1000 times, please be patient with me :)

Re: Twitter

I love twitter, it's basically a fast way to see what others are up to, and an easy way to let other know what your doing. You can get followers by posting things that they would like to know about. Like for me, I crochet, so I'm reaching other crocheters, people who love crafts, people who just love the art of crochet. So I post things those people would like to check out. Then every once in a while I'll post a new product, and sometimes you'll get lucky and someone who has a lot of followers will retweet something you posted and you'll get more followers.

Re: Twitter

Thanks for responding Ashley. So do you daily log in to twitter and just randomly say something or do you post one of your items? I do have a facebook page and that makes sense to me because you can right away see a whole "story" going on with history and pictures but twitter tweets just shows some words and maybe a link?

Re: Twitter

Every now and then I'll see someone who says they get a sale from twitter. But when you add up the number of hours people spend there, I cannot imagine it is even worth one sale.

It's social, it's silly and my opinion seems to be in the minority. When I had a twitter account almost all of my followers were etsy sellers. Not my customers.

I know some people like it for the chatting, I felt stupid using it. I didn't feel like anything meaningful was said in 140 characters.

But most of all, it took away time from actually creating, interacting with real customers and better marketing.

If you find it useful for your business, then by all means, pursue it. But, you can run quite a successful business with out it. I have an etsy shop, a website and wholeslae accounts. I've worked very hard to get them all, and I do not use twitter.

Re: Twitter

Thanks for your honesty Sherry, it is always a gamble and i think it is best to find out by just trying. I am glad i am not the only one feeling that it is a bit senseless to just quickly put a link out there and like you say, it is better to just work hard. Today was my first day trying, but i must say I had quite a bit of looks, no followers though. But I didn't expect that either.
Thanks again for your input.

".... But most of all, it took away time from actually creating, interacting with real customers and better marketing." Can't agree more with Sherry. If you are using it, better to limit the time spend on it.

Re: Twitter

Lots of twitter views are "bots" They troll twitter and the internet looking for your key words so they can market to you. They are not people. You can tell because they look at your item for a nanosecond.

You can also tell because they don't translate into sales.

Re: Twitter

I personally love twitter! It's not the best for getting sales but it's fun, social, and interactive. I think you'll be successful using twitter if you are interested in interacting with people and not just tweeting your links out.

Re: Twitter

Links from Twitter to your shop do count for SEO though, to pop you up higher in Google, whether the clicks directly from Twitter are bots or not.
