Re: Twitter mania

I've been on twitter for more than 3 years (@leedsradio) and have posted more than 2700 tweets. It does very, very little for my business. I get traffic but very, very few sales.
It's also a tough venue; If all you post is product, no one will follow you and you'll be talking to yourself. So you are force to provide entertainment and then slip in isolated item here and there. If you go beyond that people (except maybe those you know in real life) will un-follow you.

Re: Twitter mania

I totally hear you, Richard! Although I seem to have many new followers, I haven't really witnessed any benefit from Twitter for my Etsy business.

It's a two-way road, indeed. To be heard and retweeted, you really need to ne "all there" - comment, interact, etc. I haven't really found time for that.

Re: Twitter mania

Promoting is never about link dropping or spamming, but all about interacting with your target market. Build up a following. It takes time and dedication.

Re: Twitter mania

A little note for Twitter. When you tweet items, tweet them from within twitter. If you include a pic, that pic will be displayed in the feed. It you do the same from most apps or services outside of Twitter, you will only be tweeting a link.

The visual appeal kicks up views and retweets enormously.

Re: Twitter mania

I've had my twitter account for well over 6 years now. I spend a good part of my time there chatting with people, especially about the Sunday football and not promoting at all.

If people want to see what I do, they can look at my shop profile.

I've had great success with twitter for the business simply by interacting with people.

Re: Twitter mania

Good point Malcolm!

There are free services that will post tweets at times that aren't convenient to you or, if like me these things slip your mind! I can then get on with other things and just reply to people.

One service is called Buffer.

Re: Twitter mania

I have been on twitter since it was in Beta, I was invited and I LOVE IT, it is the only social media I use regularly and consistently and it most definitely has brought me sales. Not a ton of sales but it works if you work it.

I remember reading on an Etsy blog sometime back about picking the social media outlet you're most comfortable with and really learn and utilize it. I am not a fan of FB so I don't even log in anymore and pinterest changes to often for me to keep up (plus I could get lost for a week on pinterest) so I stick with twitter.

I am here on twitter:

The situation you are in is what worries me. You have more than 27000 tweets. If the average tweet took only 10 seconds that's 75 hours of time.
If you had an unskilled position that pays $10 a hour would yield $750.
Your average item price seem to be around $15-$20, so assuming a 50% profit you would had to have sold 75-100 items through your efforts on twitter to break even. That would be one sale every 360 tweets. If you're doing that well, I'd love to here how you are doing it. I have 2700 tweets and two sales totaling maybe $100. For me twitter is already a loss.

Re: Twitter mania

I think social media in General can be very helpful if you dedicate a good amount of time to it. But more importantly, you need to be social within etsy. Interacting in groups, promotional threads, and treasuries will help you more than any social media account.

@HPtreasures is my twitter and I have slowly been gaining followers but it really doesn't do much unless you are very interactive as the others have said. I love Instagram, people like visualization, and I know I have gone to many peoples sites from seeing their pictures on Instagram. Again, I haven't put much effort into it but I only think twitter works if you have a lot of time to spend.

Re: Twitter mania

I didn't know that about tweeting from Twitter itself. Thanks for the great tip, Malcolm! I usually just tweet my items from Etsy (in addition to posting articles or blog posts that I think would be of interest to my followers), but I will rethink that and try to post more photos, too!

Re: Twitter mania

Been on Twitter for years. I use it for a variety of purposes. As with everything else in my life right now, it needs some organizing (lists).
