Twitter Question?

I've been using twitter for a couple of months now between making my own tweets and mentioning people and all that and also the automated ones from cr8tivity.com but I'm not sure how much traffic it is actually bringing in. I have over 1000 followers so you would think the message would get somewhere but it doesn't seem to...

Does anyone have twitter tips that might help grab peoples attention? I don't really want to waste my time yelling into the dark.

do you know about hash tags in twitter?

A hash tag before a keyword will take you to a specific page on twitter for that keyword. May people search all the posts through keywords to find relavent content. If you use a hash tag (a hash tag is a number symbol #) with no spaces between it and the keyword that follows it, you would increase the pages your post is connected to, which will increase the visibility of your post to the right people.

If you choose to share an item on Etsy through Twitter, Etsy will automatically create a twitter post for your link based on the description. You can edit this post or publish it as it. Or you can create your own shortened links through:

http://bit.ly
http://tinyurl.com

What if you made a post and link read more like a sentence with injected keywords? For instance:

See my item item:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/67454359/poppy-love-lucite-lily-drop-earrings

If i share it on twitter, the generic twitter generated post is:

Poppy LOVE lucite lily drop earrings Bridge & by BridgeandBuckle http://etsy.me/eUW6ZH

The post I edited to include hash tags:

'Poppy' #LOVE #lucite lily #flower drop #earrings by Jamie Smedley exclisively for Bridge and Buckle on #ETSY http://etsy.me/eUW6ZH

Anytime you use a hash tag, the word following it is a link to a page with all the other posts that have used that tag. Now I have a posting that will be linked to Love, Lucite, Flower, Earrings and Etsy. Six new ways to see it. (six because people who follow me will see it automatically.

Thanks for reposting that info. I'm starting to use hashtags now, but I'm not sure how it's working out just yet. Haven't noticed a huge increase in views. Maybe it takes time...

The biggest benefits I've seen through twitter are from interacting - making friends - and chatting. Using it for what it is - a social networking platform - rather than as a broadcasting network.

Of course I will tweet my new blog posts, and some new items etc, but most of the time I'm talking to people - building relationships. And that has been golden for me, and what I'm trying to achieve with my biz (which goes far beyond just my jewellery - I also publish a daily blog and a quarterly print zine).

I started twittering about four weeks ago and have over 100 followers. I think the key is to engage with other people, use #hash tags, retweet other people tweets and try to write a creative tweet and not just promote your item.
