Twitter Craziness!

I started a twitter account for my shop this afternoon. Although I only have a 5 followers, each time I listed an item and posted it on my twitter, I had about 10-15 views INSTANTLY! It's amazing!
Twitter scares me but I've heard of it's selling power.
I'm hooked!
:)

Re: Twitter Craziness!

Usually I use Twitter to announce a new item on my shop. Since I don't produce item everyday, I do not spam my followers with tons of "oh that's new" tweets.

For the last 2 items I decided not to use any means of promotion and the views were much less than if I used Twitter.

So, Twitter is a great tool for me. Building your follower base takes time, but those who lies you and follow you well on Twitter will always come and see the new wonders you add to your shop!

As for sales, well it's another story (1 sale since shop opened)

Re: Twitter Craziness!

When you post something on twitter, you automatically get views from bots crawling your site to gather data for the searches

Re: Twitter Craziness!

use Twitter all the time and have been for months now but just realized how good it is to use to show new items I've added to my shop. Everytime I do, I get a few more followers. I'm not sure if any of my sales came from Twitter, though. I need to ask my buyers how they found me.

Re: Twitter Craziness!

makeshiftapparel: you most probably are right as for bots (there are bots everywhere, kind of an invisible invasion ;-) maybe after all my stuff is mostly seen by blind pieces of software LOL

MysticHillsNgaroma: I tweet about items I post on my shop. Since I can only create items at a slow pace, it does not look like spam. Additionally I post about what I am currently working on, even refer to pictures of items under construction that I put on Flickr, I tweet about the supplies I buy and sometimes where I get them in order to help promote other businesses, I tweet about things I like a lot. As long as I'm not flooding, my followers seem very happy

Also you can achieve conversations on Tweeter. It usually starts on my side by a reply to an existing very recent tweet, and I make sure the targeted tweeter user name is in my reply. Then I receive a reply and the conversation goes for some time... all public by the way. You can also send private messages if you want

Re: Twitter Craziness!

I'm trying to make sense of Twitter as well. I don't understand how to create a user base. I don't want my personal friends have to read my business tweets, so how do I get to people I don't know?

I came across this site, which seems to have a lot of information

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/internet/social-networking/networks/twitter2.htm

but truth be told, my attention span is sooooo short when it comes to technical stuff. I'd rather be making something!

Re: Twitter Craziness!

Just did a busn. page for facebook, started a blog and after reading your posts I will start Twitter also. It is amazing all the social networking that is out there, it can be alittle overwhelming. GreenOnionsTextiles, I agree, I would rather be making my notecards. Thanks everyone for the info.

Re: Twitter Craziness!

I've just started "tweeting" about new items in my shop and immediately get 10+ views out of it. The funny thing is, I've just set up my account and only 10 people are following me! So strange but I'm not complaining.

Re: Twitter Craziness!

I only have 45 peeps, but then I only follow less than 120. How do peeps keep up with so many folk?

I try not to list my new work. A couple time a week. I rt and add my work to someone who has already mentioned something.

Re: Twitter Craziness!

sorry, but these are bots :) they are checking new links and you can have even more then 10 views after you tweet your new item just in few seconds. these are not real people..

Re: Twitter Craziness!

I still cannot understand whats going on with twitter. When i tweet i get views, but those views are not in my google analytics or in craftopolis. So somehow are fake views. I will keep using it though cos you never know...

Re: Twitter Craziness!

Last month i posted on my blog a series of twitter tips:
http://fibrouscreations.com/2011/06/twitter-what-to-say-and-how-to-promote/

feel free to post comments asking question.

These bots though, even if they aren't real people, they are scouring the web for a reason, i've heard an SEO person theorize that links on twitter are good for SEO and getting a better ranking on searches.

Re: Twitter Craziness!

I haven't paid attention to the views via my etsy.
I have noticed that followers will drop you if you list items from your shop too much.
So, I try to be selective in listing or mentioning etsy.

Re: Twitter Craziness!

fibrous: you're right about bots and visibility, SEO and things alike. I googled "Handustry" last Wednesday and, quite obviously, I was there 1st at top of the search.

On the other hand if I google for "crochet bag" I'm nowhere or at the 500000000 page. I don't mind right now. I build my fans and follower base on communicating directly with people. It has done good so far.

I plan a FB ad campaign when I get to 10 items. Since a got another sale this week, gotta work harder at producing items (that's a good problem). My ad is worded as to interest people in what I do, how I work instead of "come and buy"

Re: Twitter Craziness!

Twitter is a little bit difficult. I've had my twitter account for years but just decided to get it going again for my Etsy account yesterday. I'm definitely going to be reading those twitter tips! @chelleomi
