Too Many Listings?

Is there such a thing?
I like variety personally and I like options. But is that what todays consumer wants?
Does more listings equal more successful?

You opinions would be greatly appreciated! Please and thank you! =)

Re: Too Many Listings?

i don´t think there is such a thing as too many listings. i would love to have more. right now i´m trying to get to 50 active listings (i´m at 46 now). but if you think you have too many you could list identical items only once and use the variations option
this item would be perfect for variations:

Re: Too Many Listings?

I do have that as a variation listing to request your own colors.
I have some color combos already offered like this one cause they were requested so often. =)

Re: Too Many Listings?

If a shop is well organized I love when then have a ton of listings. Its when the sections aren't used and everything is jumbled together that I don't wanna bother.

Re: Too Many Listings?

I agree with ThirtytwoFlavors. They should be very well organised. Otherwise, it is boring.

Re: Too Many Listings?

I've never seen a shop with too many items for sale, but I've seen so many that have such a small variety that its hard to find what you are looking for.

There's nothing worse than finding a cool shop with only one or two items per section.

Right now I'm not getting the sales that I usually do simply because I've not got the stock. I'm out of many of my really popular items and my suppliers haven't been able to ship as fast as I order.

Re: Too Many Listings?

I have always been told that the more items you have the more easier you are to find...I am always trying to increase my listings but its difficult when you sell an item. not all my sales come online I have made sales through word of mouth and that sets me back some (or not as the case be a sale is a sale after all) I do keep trying though.

Re: Too Many Listings?

I have also been told the more items you have the more likely you are to be found.
I agree that it is important to use the shop sections , other wise it turns into a mess.

Re: Too Many Listings?

I'm in the minority. I personally think there is such a thing as too many listings.

I've seen shops with 500 items that aren't supplies. Even if they're divided into sections that's a lot to go through. I end up doing a search within the shop to try to narrow it down, but by doing that am I missing something cool that I might have stumbled on if there wasn't so much to weed through?

I guess it can be both good and bad. A lot of listings get your shop seen. Too many listings can make a buyer give up and move on. :/

Re: Too Many Listings?

I don't think you can have too many listings, but if you have a lot I think it is super important to have well defined and thought out categories so it's easier for customers to browse your shop. I also think it's important to have items that relate to each other at least in some small way. There is nothing more disappointing for me then to find an item I love and then go to the shop to browse and find absolutely nothing like that item at all any where in the shop!

The best benefit to having a ton of items is that if you are good with your category choices (occasion, sections, etc.) and tags you can really boost your exposure!
