To include or not to include product information in a package.

Buyers would you prefer a card with product information, materials and such with a mobile or is just a thank you card and business cards enough?
Sellers do you send product information along with your selling objects?

I write a lot of product info in the description off my mobiles in my shop, but when I ask, people tend not to read it. So I was wondering if it would be appreciated/ useful to include that info in some form with my selling products in the package they receive. What are your thoughts? Would you like / do you include product information in your package? Is it necessary / wanted?

You could include the information if you want to, but I tend to prefer a thank you and a business card. If there is some sort of special care for the pieces, you might include that.

I think a business card and thank you card would be fine. However, you may want to print this information on a business card (you can pick up a pack that would go through your printer @ Target or Walmart for cheap) in case customers passed over it in your listing, just as a disclaimer. It'd also be useful for people who receive it as a gift and wouldn't know it needs to be protected outside:

"This sculpture can be hung outside, but should be protected from weather conditions; humidity will make it oxidise quicker and might cause a green sheen over the structure as is natural for copper.
It is not designed as a toy and contains small elements, therefore it should not be hung within the reach of a child or baby."

Hi Karen,

I would support and advise you to include a product information card. Remember that the buyer might not be the receiver! It would be terrible if someone got your mobile as a gift and it got ruined due to improper care. A lot of the times my items are purchased as gifts... I have been including care cards , previously instructions with all of my coaster sets to make sure they last and look their best for decades!

I think it is a good idea.
And it is still up to your buyers or receivers wether they want to read it.

Some business card services allow you to print info on the back of your cards when you order them, or if you really wanna include a little bit of info, a hand - written note with some info would be good.

Personally though, I would prefer just the business card with contact info and a thank you unless there is something special included.

Re: To include or not to include product information in a package.

I always include a care sheet with my photographs. They are printed on fine art velvet paper - which while being beautiful - is more fragile then the kodak paper style photographs people are used to.

The care sheet does two things - gives them useful information about the care of the print - and reminds them that this is a piece of art as opposed to a snapshot they developed at a local drugstore. This can be especially important if the item is intended as a gift as the receiver will not have read the description - and therefor knows nothing about the item.

So if your item requires special care - definitely send that with. Almost anything you buy tends to come with some instructions - or text on the packaging etc, so I don't think a buyer would find it weird. I'm actually surprised more people don't add information/care instructions.

I'm seriously considering doing some fancy "flyers" or postcards from vistaprint with the care instructions - so they are pretty!

I always include a thank you note (with my website printed on the back) as well as a care card for my sterling silver pieces (since gold filled tends to take care of itself).

I just started including an insert in the packaging that contains shop and contact information, instructions for use and care instructions for that product.

Great ideas! Thanks for thinking with me. I like the idea of a business card with the info on the backside. Thinking of my pieces as a gift for others does indeed make me decide that a little extra info is not a bad idea.
