Titles

Got a question about titles. Do I have to have commas or dashes between phrases or can it be a long run on sentence?

Re: Titles

It can be one long run on sentence. Personally, I like titles better when phrases are separated somehow (commas, periods, slashes, dashes). In my opinion, they're easier to read than a run on sentence. I use periods to separate mine. But there's no rule that says you can't use a run on sentence if you like titling that way.

Re: Titles

Ok thanks. I was hoping that was the case and it didn't mess up search.

Re: Titles

You want to have many different keywords phrases in a title for search, YET you want your titles to be readable for potential buyers.
So yes, use comma's.
Make sure to leave the usual space after the comma, or you'll ruin search results (seperate words will be read like one).

Re: Titles

hmmm, food for thought here.
I use no punctuation, and I believe it does not have to be gramatically correct as in a sentence.

Ex: Vintage dress red 60s strapless cocktail party Givenchy
(I just made that up now)

Good or bad?? Thanks in advance..:)

Re: Titles

It's VERY important that you leave a space after a hyphen. Otherwise the search sees it as eliminating those words (at least that's what I've read).

For example:
Purple flower headband - Womens girls large flower headband

is better than

Purple flower headband-Womens girls large flower headband

Re: Titles

Hyphens without spaces connect words into one.
So, just like with comma's without a space (after it, no need to put one before it).
We're just talking basic language skills here.

Patricia, that sentence might read fine to you, but most customers will find it hard to read. You don't want that.

Re: Titles

I'm so lost I still cant figure out all these titles and tags Ive been working on new changes for the last couple hours and still dont know if I'm doing this right. I'm starting to miss the simple life of craft shows. I read some of these answers and seem to get more lost. Question is there a place or someone that will read thru your shop and fix it ? I'll be happy to pay

David - join Helpful Relevancy Team, an d tell them you're new to the team, would like any info they can give you (they have an email they'll privately send you), and would appreciate a critique. It may take a few days, but they are helpful.

It's confusing I know - Good Luck!

Re: Titles

I use a hyphen after my first keyword phrase, then use / to seperate subsequent ones. I like the way it looks. :)

Cheers!
