Titles. Simple or Funny?

Hey guys, I struggle with my titles. What do you think I should do? I feel like giving them a special name but is it bad for relevancy search?
Some sellers seem to be successful with very simple and funny titles and I know I'm put off by long super descriptive, titles.
Let us know your title experiences and mistakes, if you have noticed any difference in views and sales when changing titles.
Thanks!!

Re: Titles. Simple or Funny?

I title my items with what they are - if there is a funny or cool title, I'll put it at the end of the title rather than at the beginning. Every now and then, someone will find it with the "cool" title - but more often, I'm found with the more general terms.

Personally, I'm turned off by short descriptions, and cutesy titles. :)
We're all different.
You'll please some and not others with funny titles.
I think the shops that do better with cutesy titles, are shops that are well established, and have a strong customer base. Until that happens, I would think the funny titles would hurt you, as far as relevancy is concerned.

That had crossed my mind..I think I might go for small and unfancy titles for now. Thanks!

Re: Titles. Simple or Funny?

I've been researching this!
I love to name things like jewelry... but I have found I was not found by doing this.
I have been reading that to be 'found' on searches the first few words in title and the first two lines in your description are critical. Get right to the point of what you are offering. After the first two lines you can be cute and funny.

Re: Titles. Simple or Funny?

I just changed my titles yesterday from short to long descriptive ones and I woke up with two sold items:) Of course it's not because of the titles yet (I have a wonderful returning customer) but I definitely think long descriptive titles help... I personally love the special names on the things I make, but I also love it when I sell something, so:) I just put the special names in my special descriptions:) Good luck!

Re: Titles. Simple or Funny?

I keep the first few words of my title focused for the revelancy search then I get creative or detailed such as size and use.
Thanks Lynda for mentioning the first few lines of my description. I usually jump into why I like an item rather than describing it again. I'll try that too.
I try to mix up catagories to get views for similiar items. I sell vintage collage supplies so some are under vintage and some are under supplies.
