Tips for keeping customers in your shop for longer

Hey , I seem to find that my shop page views are very high however they seem to go nowhere after that. I have very little views on anything other than my shop page so im starting to think people are getting bored too quickly when coming into my shop. Is there any tips people can give me on keeping your shop interesting throughout, and ways to keep customers in your shop for longer? Thanks Kay x

Re: Tips for keeping customers in your shop for longer

Hi Kay,

You recently got a critique on your shop and people gave some good advice. I just checked your shop and it doesn't look like you've done anything anyone suggested. Just looking at your shop page, all the different backgrounds are distracting. At a glance I cannot tell what you are selling....I really have to look closely at each listing to even see the item.

Go back to the critiques everyone gave you and implement those suggestions. Those will help people stay in your shop and look around more. Good luck.

I agree with Elizabeth. You had good feedback just a few days ago, here:

If you still need advice, ask for it after you've done what was previously suggested. It may not be that people are getting 'bored' when they come to your shop, but that they are overwhelmed -- as many people mentioned, your photos are a little distracting with such busy backgrounds.

What these two said.

Take into consideration all the changes that was made previously, especially those pictures! People will get frustrated at looking at distracting pictures than leave.

But take your previous feedback seriously and work on your shop based off of that. Than wait a week or two. I say wait that way because its so easy to make the changes, wait a day and say, "Its not working." Give it a bit to "click" and give it a chance. Etsy and sales/views is a test of patience. :P

And like Bee said, if something still isn't working, please feel free to come back and ask for more help.

Agree with above. I have had my shopped critiqued about 5 times since i opened March 1. I followed 99.9% of suggestions and have seen my sale climb to what I believe are incredible heights. 8 orders in 3 weeks; 23 total. And it has a LOT to do with listening to objective opinions. We are too close to our work to see some ot the mistakes we are making.

Re: Tips for keeping customers in your shop for longer

Hi Kay Jones. Not having seen your previous thread or others' advice, my first thought upon looking at your shop is that it's incredibly distracting. All of the bright colors and different backgrounds made it difficult to see the items you are selling. I know re-shooting photos can be a huge pain in the butt, but I think it'll be worth it in your case. It's been my experience that people like looking at a shop with uniform colors on neutral backgrounds. Best of luck.

I would strongly suggest that you take the advice you were given in previous threads and once you've applied them, then ask for another critique.

There was plenty of excellent advice given in your previous thread

Yep, visually almost painful for me to look at your shop. I hate putting my things on a boring background but that's what's going to sell your stuff in an online venue.

Re: Tips for keeping customers in your shop for longer

A lot of people in your past thread mentioned fixing/improving your titles/tags/SEO. This *is* a tip for helping people stay in your shop longer, because the better your SEO/titles/tags are, the more likely it is that the shoppers being directed to your site are going to actually be looking for what your site is selling.

A lot of your tags don't have much to do with your products, or aren't particularly descriptive (i.e. are one word). For example: happiness, happy, drugs, brown, beach, wood, gold, love, meditation.

Don't discount the advice you've already gotten just because it wasn't phrased as something 'to help people stay longer.' Someone else mentioned making your descriptions more grammatically correct and nice to read, which is also a tip for making people stay. I personally often think someone with grammar/spelling errors is not as credible because if they aren't taking their time to create their listings, how do I know they're taking their time to create their items? So as soon as I see poorly written descriptions/etc, I leave.

I'm not trying to sound overly critical, but is you're serious about wanting to improve your shop, listen to the advice people give you and think about the different ways taking their suggestions would help.

Re: Tips for keeping customers in your shop for longer

I tend to stick around if something looks like it has a history. Antique components, coins, interesting beads. I want to read the descriptions of things that look unusual.
I am not sure that the goal should be having people hanging around longer. My goal is to attract people who have been to Scotland or have Scottish ancestry, ie: my target audience. If they buy something within 3 seconds, goal met!

Re: Tips for keeping customers in your shop for longer

Thank you very much for your advice!
I need to spell check more thoroughly . My item photos are being uploaded tonight and my descriptions have been edited, I will adjust my SEO to being more accurate to my item!
I don't mean to seem like I am avoiding some of my critiques, Its just that I noticed my shop stats shift unexpectedly and was beginning to show me that people when leaving the page after viewing my shop home. I will take on all of the advice you have given me, I didn't feel that it would be rude to post one more question regarding a different subject after I *had* started making changes to the shop. Despite some assuming I wasn't satisfied with my critique, I am thankful for all of the advice, but I don't think I will be asking for more off anyone again, thanks.

Re: Tips for keeping customers in your shop for longer

Hi Kay. I think that by revamping your shop a bit with the advice you've been given you will find that people will stay in your shop longer. Not to seem harsh, but I personally honestly left because I wasn't even sure what I was looking at because the backgrounds were so distracting. :( Which is why I suggested you change your photos. Having clean, polished pictures, good titles/tags, and good descriptions will make people want to stay.

Another way you can help people stay in your shop longer is by posting links to other items within item listings. For instance, let's say you're offering a purple necklace, but you have a red necklace that's similar. At the end of the purple necklace listing, you can write something like "looking for a different color? I have a similar red necklace here:" and then post the link to the red necklace. I do this with many of my listings and find that I then end up getting many views from people clicking on items this way. I also include links back to my homepage in most of my listings since people usually find me by searching for a specific item instead of just landing on my shop homepage. Although maybe the reverse is true for you. When people are then exposed to a couple of different items in your shop they'll hang out longer. I hope this helps.

Re: Tips for keeping customers in your shop for longer

Hello everyone! It is interesting to hear your opinion on my shop. This applies to products and store design. Now I play the game, such as "listing accommodate 3 - love a 30" and looking for different ways to promote my product. But I would like to better quality development.
