Hello there, fellow Etsians!
I have noticed quite a few threads regarding blogging and how to get more visitors, follwers, comments, etc and thought I'd throw in my two cents worth... for what it's worth... and then throw it open to others to throw their own tips in.
My blog is called Bubby Makes Three www.bubbymakesthree.blogspot.com which has over 200 followers and gets around 8000 visitors per month. What's my secret? I've worked long and hard on it for the last two years and am continually tweaking and making changes to it. I started it BEFORE I started my business which is I think a key component to its credibility. There are a lot of blogs out there, and its about standing out from the crowd. Here's how to differentiate YOURS:
Tip#1: name your blog the same name as your business! A great start in your path to self promotion!
Tip #2: In order to establish a readership you need to work on content content content. That's how you establish trust. And loyalty. And, over time, a following.
Tip #3. Don't just talk about your business. That isn't interesting enough to make people come back. And you WANT them to come back!
Tip #4 Make your content interesting. And relevant to your readers. Which leads me to Tip #5 Establish a target audience. This will help you shape your content and build a likeminded following.
Tip #6 Don't focus on the number of followers you have (or don't have). It isn't important. If you build a quality blog, they will come.
Tip #7 Find and follow other quality blogs. Be an active contributor to their discussions. They will be curious about you and visit you in kind!
Tip #8 Get other people to do your promoting for you! For example, I sent the hugely popular and successful Jen Ramos
http://madebygirl.blogspot.com/ some images of one of her prints I had purchased and hung on my nursery wall. She in turn posted images of my nursery on her blog, prompting over 900 hits on my site, just in one day!
Tip #9 Be yourself. Don't be something you are not, let your personality shine through your blog!
Tip #10 Don't feel you need to post every day... but do post at least twice a week. Especially when you are starting out.
There! A few tips I hope might spark some further input. That's what's worked for me so far and mostly, I just enjoy my blog and the surprises (including friendships AND sales!) that come from it! Now, get blogging! x
