Thoughts on selling different types of items...

My etsy shop right now is strictly my stamped jewelry. I also sew childrens clothing and handbags and I'd like to start selling those online as well ( right now it's just local). I'd would, of course, change my shop announcement/header and all that good stuff to reflect the change.

What are your thoughts on selling them in one shop (under the "good gollie miss mollie" name) or would it be better to have a second one? I'm afraid it would turn people off to have so many different things in one shop....as if I wasn't concentrating on one or the other.

Thanks in advance!!

Just get them all in the one shop. You've not long opened up, so now is definitely the time for experimentation. If something doesn't seem to be working well, or if some thing doesn't seem to fit in, then phase it out. But there is no point having to half stocked shops, you're better off having the one shop selling different items.

I have a lot of different items in my shop, but I'm a new shop (3 months). So, will be interested in seeing the responses to your question. I would think that as long as you categorize your items so a potential customer can click on the items of interest, then it would be a lot less hassle.

We sell different items in our shop and it works well for us. Items or ideas that haven't fit the "look" we want have been fazed out. Having a variety seems to help us draw in more traffic also.

I think you should sell them all in one shop since you have so few items right now. Like Marie said, that gives you more room to experiment as you grow. You can also just focus on promoting one shop instead of two. If your shop grows a lot and you have a lot of items in both categories, then you might want to consider splitting it into two shops, but for now I say just stick with one.

You should try to make it work on one shop, make cohesive categories and pictures. It will be much harder to market and promote two shops! I promise you that.

I've helped my mom opening a shop here @Etsy, but I've ended up with most of the work, so many times I wish we only had one shop, but our items are completely different and for different audiences, no can do.

Re: Thoughts on selling different types of items...

I could see the handbags and jewelry in one shop, as women's accessories. Adding the children's clothing into that might mess with the cohesiveness. You could put the kids clothes in another shop and see how it does there, and if that takes off, persue that.
The accessories store could also expand to include more jewelry, more bags, wallets, scarves, cases for sunglasses, etc?
