The neighbors must think I'm nuts!

The best place for me to photograph my work is outside on the side of our deck. The lighting is great! I often wonder what the neighbors think if they see me in the process. I'm usually on the ground trying to get the right angle. Plus, I'm in Pittsburgh, so I'm often battling cold and wind while trying to get canvas to stay upright. It must be a source of amusement for them!

Hahaha, same here. We live in a community where the houses are only a few feet apart. The porch is the best place to set up. I sometimes use a "light box," but it is really just a white cloth over a frame. I always wonder what the neighbors think when they see me with a cloth over my head, talking to myself.

The houses are really close together in my subdivision and I take a lot of my pictures on my deck too and wonder what my neighbors think. The worst is when it's windy (which it often is) and i'm trying to hurry up and take pictures before the next gust of wind. :)

My family & friends gave up on me a long time ago. lol
Fortunately our backyard is surrounded by a 6 foot privacy fence with woods behind us so I can take photos in private. :-)

This thread makes me laugh. My neighbors all know I'm a bit off~~they see me bringing things outside all the time in nat light to photograph them.

But, its when I'm lying on my belly trying to get a good photo of a toad or on my back getting the underside of a flower is when I'm sure they are scratching their heads wondering if I'm alright.

Ilze haaaah talking to yourself is fantastic. My family came home a couple of weeks ago to a friend standing in bushes and me on a box trying to photograph her. They just stood and stared before walking off without saying anything!

I was just thinking this the other day while I was out taking pictures on my patio! We live in a Townhouse community and the mailboxes are in front of my townhouse, people are always stopping to pick up mail and I wonder what they think when I'm out there in my bedroom slippers taking pictures of all sorts of vintage things against a white board!!

Another reason I'm glad I live in the country without neighbors close by. They'd really think I was nuts for photographing the trees and flowers in my yard all the time for inspiration for art quilts.

I can certainly relate to this after hours of staging photo's today only to have to ditch the lot and start again. My computer has takes 1 through to 5 for the one item and I'm still not happy. Anyone have any idea what light I need to show a silky sheen on my wraps. The fabric I felted is beautiful but I can't get it to show in the photo's. Help please.

Natural light is the best and living in FL, we get a lot of it. And Wind. And Mosquitoes. Just to get that PERFECT shot!

That's okay, our neighbor has called the town on us several times. No clue what we're doing wrong. The guy is mentally unstable (they carted him off to the hospital last month 'cause he shot himself. Don't worry, he's okay) but for some reason they always side with him...

Yeah, I caught two ladies out on a walk trying to figure out what I was doing one day! Heard one say.. "I think those are flowers she's taking pictures of!" It's the best when I have my wedding dress sprawled out on the ground and a bouquet set on top trying to get a good picture! I'm fairly certain I may be the crazy in the neighborhood! :) Glad to see I'm not alone!

I always think of that when I am going around the house placing my items all around and you really get yourself into weird positions to make that perfect pictures OMG I said to myself while cars are passing bye. Its part of the fun I guess! :) entertaining our neighbors!

Every day I continue to rebel against my stuffy office job I left a year ago to be a full-time artist. Each morning I revel in the fact that I can work in lounge pants before transitioning to worn-out, paint-splattered cargo pants. So, I must cut a pretty figure on the mornings I go out on the back deck to photograph my work. But man, I do not miss wearing a suit and heels!!!

I live in a townhome and share a porch with a neighbor. The porch has the best lighting in the am to take pictures of my kids modeling headbands. I have been caught by my neighbor so many times acting like a weirdo and making crazy noises, all to get my kids to show me a "real" smile. So embarrassing, but worth it to get that great shot.

he he he. I'm in the country, so no worries. I figure if a neighbor does see me, it speaks more about their mental stabiolity than my own, considering they would have to scale the trees on the property, stand on the back hill and look through binoculars to see over the privacy fence, the barns and my garden to spot me trying to keep my white board steady, the camera from nocking over and still control the wind, all while yelling at the dog to 'put that down' don't eat that, stop it! Hey, don't pee on ME!!!!! Hmmmm, maybe I should rethink my location after all, b/c even if they can't see me, I'm pretty sure they can hear me......

I think it comes with the creative territory...I guess that makes me the crazy...It is almost expected when you start calling yourself an Artist...Thank goodness my deck is on the 3rd floor, because I do product photos very early in the morning in my robe and slippers trying to beat the bright California Sun.
