The Price is Right. . .or not?

What do you think of the price of my newest listing? I have a hard time pricing. It took a while to paint the leaf detail, but I thought I should keep the price around the prices of my other items. Any thoughts? I appreciate your help!

Great price for a 16x20 painting on canvas! You might just want to include "canvas" or original painting in the title, so people know right away it is not a print.

Jill:

Agree with making it clear this is an original. I also think that's a great price for all that fine detail work on the leaves. Clearly this took you some time, which should be reflected in the price.

Relax. I think you've done a good job of hitting it just right. Now, let us know when it sells!

I should also say that I love LitPrint's work, and if she tells you you have priced it well, consider that a compliment. Her quote-prints are gorgeous.

I actually thinks it is a low price for an original painting of that size. But I guess it depends how much you want to pay yourself. It's hard to find the right balance with painting !

Jill,
I think the price may be a bit low, but only you know how much time you put into it and how much your materials cost.

But what about the shipping? Have you shipped a canvas this size before. You'll have to either buy a box, or make a box and pad it so that it doesn't dent. If you just bubble wrap it, it can still dent sometimes.

I just don't see anyway that you can ship this for $7.50 and the shipping will eat all the money you make. My thoughts are that you should at least analyze your shipping cost more.

Best wishes!

I think the price is great and if I had a little one I'd purchase it. does it come already stretched & mounted? If so, that's even better. Wonderful, creative art.

Re: The Price is Right. . .or not?

I would raise the price by like 5 bucks. It is a great work of art. I agree with Janeane on shipping. You might drain all the money the buyer gives you on shipping. It is always nice to make some extra cash!
Tell me if my advice helps at all.

Re: The Price is Right. . .or not?

I think it is a decent, modest price. An art professor once gave the advice for pricing our art, take the cost of materials and then factor in the time you spent on it, he suggested using the hourly minum wage times two (which is $16) So I typically start with $20 an hour plus cost of material (I dont factor in if I got my canvas on sale). Then I adjust this buy how happy I am with how it turned out and how I think it will do in terms of what people would pay for such a thing.

I personally don't have children so I could not say for sure, but I wouldn't spend much more than what you have yours priced at for art for childrens room, yet I know that my mother would probably spend more. Its hard to say.

Re: The Price is Right. . .or not?

I appreciate all of your comments. They are very helpful and making me think pricing for all of my listings.

As for shipping, I have shipped this size canvas before, and it cost about what I am currently charging. I make my own boxes the size of the canvas, with some room for bubble wrap, etc.
