The Little Engine That Could!

Gah,
These past few weeks have been a roller coaster for me. In August I had 24 sales, and in September I had a mere 9...very discouraging!! I was hoping to hit 100 sales by the end of September...and now I'm 4 away...All I can think is "I THINK I CAN!"

Does anyone else have these feelings about your shop??

Wishing you all the best :)
Kelly

Yes, I opened Aug 31 and had one sale pretty quickly. Well that was ALL! I haven't had anymore. I've been trying to concentrate on social media and reaching out to blogs, etc. It's been hard!

Re: The Little Engine That Could!

i don´t quite understand what´s going on right now in my shop. i list daily and i promote on my usual venues but somehow i can´t seem to get people into my shop. my views have gone down a bit even though i do more than usually. i can´t say anything about sales yet, i had 1 so far this month (4 last one with 5 sold items) but to me it seems that i do more but acconplish less...
one of these ups and downs probably...

Same feelings, I had 6 in August which has been the highest I've ever received. Then in September I got 8, this month I got 5 all in a day. Now my traffic is very low and it's really upsetting, I've been promoting hoping people are keeping their eyes open for Holiday gifts. I shall wait and see at this point.

Re: The Little Engine That Could!

All I can really say is HOLD ON TIGHT! I had the same problem last year. I reopened my shop around March and had a few sales here and there some months I never had any sales at all. Then in September I had 50. Then 75, 110, and 250 in December! I went a whole week without sleeping or washing my hair I was completing so many orders! Just keep pushing forward and find simple ways on improving your shop. I say dont stress over it too much sometimes it takes a little bit to start a new shop or just get more traffic :)

Re: The Little Engine That Could!

I know what you mean. I had 2 sales in August and since then NOTHING. Also, my views dropped for about 75%.

Re: The Little Engine That Could!

I still haven't got any sales since opening but I keep on trying: blogging, social media, participated in mentor month and reading Christmas bootcamp emails - I wish i had more time to knit so I could list more items.

I am blessed with a stubbornness gene so I'll keep on and on and on...

It is so exciting and empowering to receive a wave a sales and start to expect that it is the norm - only to have them dry up and go flat for a while. I've come to realize these past weeks is that selling on Etsy is like a rollercoaster - teasing with every emotion I have! Enjoy the ups, don't fret too much with the lows, and to keep trucking on!

Re: The Little Engine That Could!

YES!! Around Memorial Day (end of May for the non-U.S. folks), it started looking like I would be able to double my 2012 Etsy sales. I think I had about $300 more to sell at that time to reach this goal. It took me until August to get there, and it felt like FOREVER! (Next goal is 2.5x 2012 Etsy sales!)

Ditto what Erica said. Sometimes I am almost frantic filling orders...then I hear crickets for weeks on end. I am hoping that I will eventually adapt to this roller coaster. But for now, I still tend to think the worst during the dry spells.

Re: The Little Engine That Could!

Susan, might want to add some Policies. I don't know about other shoppers, but I'd be hesitant to buy from a shop that has no posted policies! And work on your SEO, esp. titles.

Erica, it was like that for me this Spring. Out of nowhere came 3 ladies who couldn't seem to get enough of my stuff. I thought maybe they were sisters, so I asked one of them (who was rather chatty), but she didn't know anyone with the other ladies first names who likes the same style. When I slowed down listing things (because I was getting ready for an art fair I had high hopes for), they apparently started shopping elsewhere, as they haven't been back. That'll teach me not to put all my eggs in one basket!!!

Re: The Little Engine That Could!

Yep, I definitely feel that way. Before my break to have my baby boy I had a steady stream of sales, now that I'm back and putting way more time and effort into my shop, nothing. All I keep thinking is, "Keep plugging, it will pay off in the end!" So I keep working and working and hope that soon it will pay off.
