Tag doesn't fit

There is a category under Pet Supplies called "Pet Clothing, Accessories & Shoes"
I have seen this tag used in some shops. When I try to type it, there are too many characters. How are other shops using this tag?

Only so many characters fit into a tag and it's the same for all shops.

These phrases might have been used as two tags. To fit all the words you want, split a long phrase into two parts and make two tags. e.g. pet clothing and shoes - "pet clothing" and "clothing and shoes".

If you notice some items have 16 tags - this is because etsy includes them when we put an item in a category. so the tags that are too long to fit, such as Accessories & Shoes, is probably because it is one of the ones they drop in when you list an item in that category

Like Sarah said, it is not a tag, it's the category where the item is located.

I've seen a couple of possible explanations over in the main fora. The first is that people included those tags a long time ago before the 20 character limit was imposed and those items are just renewed and it could also be if a tag is entered in a language other than English and then is translated giving it more than 20.

If your product is already under that category, then there is no need to include the tag again. :)

Alicia, how do I determine if my item is "already under that category" if it is not in my tags.

You set up the categories separately from tags.

If you go into listings manager (I'm using the new listings manager), under listing details, you'll see category as third one down. You'll be able to find pet supplies, first, than in the second drop down box you'll find pet clothing and accessories.
