As you all know, ITEM TAGS are very important for having our items found by potential customers.
A lot of sellers are having a tough time coming up with suitable tags though.
So, let's help eachother!
(We have been doing this for a while now in the Dutch Etsy team and many sellers have seen their views and, more importantly, their sales gone up.)

HOW DOES THIS TAG GAME WORK?
You can participate in two ways:
1. POST A LINK to one item in your shop that you want us to help you find tags for.
2. SUGGEST TAGS for items posted in this thread.

- Tags can have a maximum of 20 characters.
- Multi word tags work better then single word tags. The more combinations of important search words, the higher your items will show up in search results.
- Don't be afraid your suggestions won't be 'good enough'. All suggestions are good! The seller decides which ones she/he will use.
- This game does not have a specific following order.
- Start your tag suggestions by either mentioning the seller or linking to the item, to avoid confusion.
- Please join us and have fun!

I tried fixing up the tags on this item. Am I on the right track?

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

Hey Veronica,

I'm not actually sure what ACEO is (perhaps you can explain this in your description?), but I have heard that most sellers search by the object / subject they're looking for, rather than the process.

Some tag suggestions:
- sailboat art
- sailboat photography
- sailing art
- sailing decor
- nautical art
- nautical decor

I could use some perspective on my tags, if anyone wants to take a look, here's a listing:

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

also Veronica, I could be wrong, but I don't think capitalization matters for search (ie. aceo is the same as ACEO) - can anyone else confirm this?

I read in a SEO book that capitalization does not matter.

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

I just have a question for any/all of you...how do you feel about team tags? I am on a couple of teams who want/expect you to use a tag to make items easier to search for if a team member is looking for something for if they are doing a treasury or something. Should I be doing this willingly and giving up one or two tags or should I just ignore this and use up my tags for actual descriptions? Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

Elizabeth, for your skirt, my tag suggestion would be:

vintage skirt
Laurel skirt
silk skirt
stripy skirt
keen length skirt ( or other length, whatever fits)
vintage clothes
silk clothes
US size 4 to 6 skirt
8ForHeaven

Hope this helps!

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

Leigh, I used to do team tags for my jewelry shop but not anymore, I really doubt buyers will ever search with a team tag unless the team is really famous...

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

Elizabeth:

Silk Skirt
Striped Skirt
Blue, brown, beige, and pink stripes
Multi Colored skirt

Leigh: Like David I to use d to do team tags but when you belongs to more than one team you would be using all your tags just for them. I would say if you are very active in a team that has a shop or does sales together I may use a tag for that team on items I would be participating with. I was searched a few times by team tags when doing a sale like this. Since it was mentiong in a blog and FB post to search buy the team name to find items participating in the sale. But once it was over I would remove the tag.

I do however use my shop name as one of my tags since I have been using my company name of Links and Loops for several years outside of etsy. I have found that items listed that way are found by past clients that are looking for me but don't have the link to my shop.

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

Thanks for the "nautical" suggestion. Hadn't thought of that one. As for ACEO it stand for Art Cards Editions and Originals. It is small, collectable art. Which I guess just gave me another tag idea. "Collectable art" I have that in mainly for people who would know what that is and are specifically looking for that.

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

Regarding Tina's earrings, I checked you current tags and you have lavender spelled wrong. I would also add the word purple somehow. Personally, if I was looking for stuff by color, I would search for purple items. As a customer I would not specify lavender but that might just be me.

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

To Georgia, I would put the words orange beaded earrings together. Also double check your spelling. One of you "earrings" tags has a triple R while another on is missing a letter.

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

@Georgia - I really wish your earrings were on a model, so we could see how they might look dangling down.

A few keywords I could think of off the top of my head: black earrings, red earrings, boho earrings, fall jewelry

Here are a few of my pillows that aren't getting very many views, I would appreciate any keyword suggestions:

David and Tina: Thank you for the input! I have really been wondering if there was any benefit to using those team tags. And, it doesn't seem so!

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

I agree with you, Leigh-Anne, about the benefit (or lack, thereof) of using TEAM tags. If you are making a TREASURY LIST with members of a specific team, then those tags ARE reliable. Have yet to see any other benefit, though.

I'm impressed! Five new pages since my last look!
Too bad I don't have time to help out now.

Who wants to help these fellow members with tag suggestions?

Re: Tag Game! (help other sellers find suitable item tags)

About team tags: you could use one team tag on some of your items. Another team tag on some other items. That way team members can find (some of) your items and your shop for their treasuries, but you don't waste too many valuable tag slots.
You want to use most of your tags to be found in search!

A reminder of the rules:
- If you are looking for tag help, post just ONE item.
- Don't keep coming back for more (lol), but give others sellers a chance. Tag suggestions for one item will usually give you ideas for your other items too. If not, reading through this entire thread will!
- This is not one of those 'shop above you' games. So please help those sellers that have not had any tag suggestions yet, or that could do with some more (look back on the previous pages, see who got skipped).
Perhaps try and help several sellers at a time.
- Remember there is no such thing as a bad tag suggestion! After all, it is just a suggestion. So don't be shy!
- We also need participants that don't post items, but help find tags! Have some good tag ideas for items posted in this thread? We'd like to see them!
Thank you!
