Successful shops: Question

How often do you renew?
Do you have a certain time of day that you renew?

I know...It's been said many times that we should renew often.

But specifically... How often do YOU renew if you're selling successfully???????

Re: Successful shops: Question

Well, I wouldn't say I'm super successful, but I do get a fair amount of sales. I usually only renew when an item expires since I try to post new products several times a week. I don't know if this would help my sales or not, but it helps keep my Etsy bill down each month, which is nice. =) I think it is most important to get new items out there instead of continually renewing the old items.

I'm interested to see what everyone else says about this.

Re: Successful shops: Question

I've had ~700 sales since I started about 1.5 years ago and now Etsy pays the mortgage. I don't usually renew as a means of promotion. When an item sells it renews itself, so that puts it back on top, but I don't do that as a practice.

Having 100+ items in my shop has been a huge help, as has labeling things accurately to my target market. I've also focused on just selling those items that are more unique. I started selling dresses in fun colors, but the market was WAY too saturated. By looking at my shop stats I noticed that people were looking for white dresses and jon jon's, mostly for weddings, photos and celebrations. That is now 70-85% of my business most of the year.

I'd say focus on building a bigger shop or have multiple listings for the same/similar items as opposed to just renewing what you have.

Re: Successful shops: Question

I've only been here since March but I've heard that it doesn't help to renew to keep you at the top of the list. I only renew when things are about to expire. I also try to keep adding things each week.

Re: Successful shops: Question

If I haven't had a sale in 2 days then I renew a few items. Otherwise I leave it alone, because items renew anyway when someone purchase. I like to renew close to "lunch time" (it's lunch time somewhere!). That usually does it for me.

Re: Successful shops: Question

I never renew, tbh. Even in my new shop that I started in July, I haven't renewed unless they expired. I think the key thing is to continually add new items each day or at least a few times a week. That will bump your shop up in relevancy a bit.

Re: Successful shops: Question

I only renew sold items that i can reproduce and unsold items when they expire. What I wil do, is try to renew them possibly a day ahead of or after their expiration if I think those days get more views.

Re: Successful shops: Question

Not sure If my shop is considered "successful" or not to some but I think it's been a success, i only started selling last year even though I've had my account since 2008 - but I do not renew anything unless it sells, then it auto-renews. I am on the first page for certain terms that I cater too and that's all that really matters!

Re: Successful shops: Question

I'm quite random when I renew. Sometimes I'm renewing 4x a day, then not at all for a week or two.

I did experiment with renewing one item regularly for about 3 weeks.
(Same item, renewed at least once a day.)

Aaaaaannd I didn't get a single sale. :(

I know it will help when I add more listings. (Or so I'm told, anyway.)
And of course working on my SEO will help.

Re: Successful shops: Question

Thank you for asking a question that I have always wanted to ask. I have spent alot of money renewing, and no sales have come from it. I think instead I will continue to add more items, as it has been suggested.Sometimes I renew because I feel that I need to do SOMETHING. Thank you Sarah for asking, and thank you to all of you who answered.

Re: Successful shops: Question

I have been on Etsy since January, and only renew when items are coming due to expire. It doesn't make sense for my shop's small budget to renew all the time, so I have never gone that route... although it does work for other people's shops. Good question!

Re: Successful shops: Question

I renew a few items a day, though sometimes I take breaks because it can add up quickly. I get the most views if I renew after 7pm.

Re: Successful shops: Question

I don't really renew often. When I do renew it is because it has expired. I spread them out, most of the time, so that they pop up to the top at different times during the day.

Re: Successful shops: Question

I agree, if possible, it is best to add items instead just renewing,
I only renew items that sold.

Re: Successful shops: Question

I'm a fairly new shop since early this year. I've tried renewing and it doesn't help for me. I learn that I need to tweek my titles, tags, and keep on adding new products. I get sales on days I'm not on etsy and it all comes in waves then it's a dry spell for a few days.

Re: Successful shops: Question

My understanding is that now that etsy has switched to a relevancy, renewing just to be renewing does not pay. It is ONE factor in the relevancy search but no longer the ONLY factor...nor is it necessarily weighted the heaviest.

Re: Successful shops: Question

I use to renew a lot, but it didnt affect my sales at all. So now I only renew nearly expiry date and try to add items when I can...
