Struggling to get more sales!

Hi everyone!

I opened my Etsy shop in May 2011 and I was so excited when I got my first 3 sales in September/October, but since then it has all gone quiet. I know it is a while till Christmas yet but I was hoping that business would pick up at this time of year!

I have even put quite a few items on sale but it doesn't seem to be making a difference.

Please can anyone offer me any advice, or take a look at my shop and let me know what you think?

I cant offer any advice since I've only had 1 sale and have hardly any views, but I can simpathize. Keep your chin up! Its definitely NOT your products - you have awesome stuff!

I'm no expert either and I definitely don't know anything about knitting but I think your items might be a bit under priced. Oddly enough sometimes raising your prices a little can actually help sales.

I think your shop is nice - bright and inviting and quite professional looking. You're selling baby items, and there are always babies about, that's for sure, so you're onto a strong customer base. But I think you need more stock, and you definitely need more Christmas items!

Same! Although I also read elsewhere that some stores find it is quiet for this time of year, they also said that for newer shops it can really take anywhere from 6 months to a whole year for business to start moving. I've also noticed that some shops that seem have sales are also posting,tagging, and sharing 24/7. I guess we just have to be patient! :)

Hi Kerrie,

I'm no expert but had 4 ideas. 1) How about showing some photos of kids or babies modeling your items? 2) What about adding some trim or embelishments to your headbands and hats (especially the ones with that hang below the ears) to make them unique and stand out? 3) What about putting some pieces together in groups - such as the white and pink cardigan with a matching headband, the blue cardigan and hat, and hats with matching mittens? 4) What about making some items up in natural fibres? There are a lot of eco-friendly shoppers in the world but not as many eco-friendly items to buy.

The ideas might be worth a try. Remember, with all of the competition with similar items on Etsy you must make yours stand out. Good luck!

I agree ... you should raise your prices. The items you have in your store seem very undervalued. I knit (am knitting between posting on Etsy!) .. and it's very time consuming. Remember to include the time-factor and effort in your pricing.

Grats on your first sales!
Many are experiencing a slump in views and/or sales right now, specially since the changes Etsy recently made. Keep your chin up and try and promote yourself as much as possible anywhere you can. It can take months for some to have their first sale, so patience is definitely key.
