Store Traffic?

Hi Everyone!
I just opened my shop last Tuesday so I am still figuring everything out. My page views were increasing over the week until today - where I only got two views.

I was wondering if there are certain days of the week you typically have less views in your shop? Have you noticed any trends?

I'm just curious as to the reason: is it just because my listings are a bit "older" now and are getting a little more buried, or am I messing with my SEO tags (I've been trying to improve them) too much, or are some days just light in store traffic? I know Wednesdays are usually the slowest days at the grocery stores. Does Etsy have a "slow" day, too?

Thanks a bunch!
Deanna

Re: Store Traffic?

Items generally take a week or 10 days to achieve their full relevancy; there is an initial boost (from recency) but then it takes a while to get to where it will more or less stay. different shops have different slow days; our slowest is Sunday.

You should read a basic intro to Etsy's relevancy search; this team has a pretty good one: https://www.etsy.com/teams/10713/etsy-relevancy-seo-and-stats

You also will probably need a lot more items to start bringing in regular views and sales.

Re: Store Traffic?

Thanks so much for the reply. I love your labels! I have a few quilts I'm finishing up that need some labels :D

Thank you for your input and advise. I'm hoping to get more items in my shop soon. I feel like I've read Etsy relevancy search a few times but am still trying to properly apply it. It's good to know it will take about a week or so to see where the items will stay.

Re: Store Traffic?

The main keys to Etsy's search are:

If you want to be relevant for a certain phrase, that phrase must be in your title and in your tags as a single tag. So if you're looking to be relevant in the search "aqua fabric" you need "aqua fabric" in your title and as a tag.

There is almost never a need for single word tags, as they can be included in other tags. So if you've tagged "aqua fabric," don't bother tagging "fabric"; it's already there.

Longer, more specific phrases are good.

You must research to see what people looking for your items are actually using to search for them. Google's keyword planner tool can help with this, and so can the drop-down search suggestions that Etsy provides when you start to type something into the search bar (these are things that are searched relatively frequently on Etsy). So if I start typing in the search bar "fabric," I get:

fabric by the yard
cotton fabric
fabric bundle

as suggested searches. These might be good things to incorporate into some of your tags and titles.

A search that I start for "aqua fabric" gives me:

Riley Blake aqua fabric
coral and aqua fabric
coral aqua fabric

"cotton fabric" gives me

cotton fabric by the yard
quilting cotton fabric
100% cotton fabric
floral cotton fabric

these would all be good phrases to start adding as tags and titles.

Re: Store Traffic?

Thank you very much for the additional information. I'll get looking at my tags this afternoon and rework them. I didn't know about the inefficiency of single words when it came to searches. I'll bet getting rid of my single word tags (I have a lot) will make space for more meaningful tags.

Thank you for the examples. I will try incorporating those into my titles/tags.

Thanks again,
Deanna
