Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

Re: Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

How are your views? I ask because for example on this listing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/102228034/funky-owl

For me it's hard to know what that is with only the title of "Funky Owl." It would help in the titles to describe what it is like an owl print, owl painting, etc. Include those same groups of words in your tags. You're more likely to be found like this because not that many people are going to just search the words funky owl.

Read up about SEO's. In your shop announcement talk about the products you sell. These keywords will be picked up in search engines. Also your banner is hard to read. It would be worthwhile redesigning to make it clearer.

Re: Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

1) You've been open for almost exactly a month. Many sellers don't get their first sales until they're been open for a few months.

2) You need to add more items. Having more items gives potential buyers more chances to find you, plus it makes it more likely that they'll find something they want once they get to your shop.

3) I don't know what advice you've been following, but you really need to work on your tags and titles to get found. Your titles should be more descriptive, and the first three words should be the most important words to describe the item. If you're selling a Marilyn Monroe Print, then those should be the first three words of the title, followed by more information about it like size and technique (drawing, painting, digital art, etc.). Your tags should be phrases that people would type into the search bar when looking for prints like yours and they should be relevant. It's very unlikely that someone searching vintage clothing is actually looking for a print. If you want to sell cell phone covers, etc. you should probably make separate listings for them.

4) Descriptions! Tell me about the piece - why you made it, what techniques you used, why people should buy it, etc. Google picks up on the first sentence or so, so make sure you have what the item is in that sentence - just make sure it sounds conversational and not like you're stuffing every keyword you can think of in there.

Good luck!

Re: Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

ditto to Ariella - your titles need to tell exactly what your product is. Try Shoptimizer.com - it is a free service and it grades your shop titles, tags, descriptions, etc. I got my grade this week, fixed all of my titles, and have seen an increase in views. My shop is still small, but I have worked hard to be found and you can to:)

Kim - Shoptimizer.com redirected to Shoptimizer.net, which is not in English (unfortunately, I'm not very multilingual, I can only say "I like to dance with the chicken in the bathroom" in spanish). Do you have another link?

Re: Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

The description under Funky Owl said:
If you would like to buy THIS PIECE:
If you purchase this piece it will come in an 8x12.

If you would like to buy this piece CUSTOM-MADE OR IN A LARGER SIZE:
Prints of this piece can be provided in 11x14, 8.5x11, 8x12, 12x36 (and other traditional poster sizes). If you would like this custom made on a cell phone cover, t-shirt, handbag, or the like, feel free to contact me.

If you would like to buy the ORIGINAL:
The original piece is an 8x12 and is for sale as well, please contact me if you would like to buy the original.

I'm confused - What EXACTLY is it that you're selling here? You have a lot of different sizes listed here here - are the all $10?

Re: Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

And, just to add to other questions posted.... Maybe I'm the only one, but I have no idea what giggle art is?

Also, I'm pretty sure you can't tag your items with a descriptor that doesn't actually describe the listing. An example, you list a print of Funky Owl, but you tag it with "handbag" and "cell phone cover", which are two completely different things and I'm guessing neither actually describes the listing.

I just tried this, had a B, A, A. I made some minor SEO adjustments and it tells me I know have straight A's. It will be interesting to see if the tweaking worked ;)

I'd be willing to buy this, but there's no info about what mediums were used or how you created it. I know you have a statement about contacting you for more info. But if the basics aren't there, most people won't go through the trouble to contact you for more info because that means investing more time. I agree about the titles tags and SEO advice as well.

In my opinion that tool does more harm than good. I would say read the one google published and the one etsy put together.

As an aside, it is worth noting that if you search SEO tools that website does not have good ranking on google

Re: Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

Sorry Valerie, But I actually have no idea what you are selling based on your shop announcement or your item titles.

What is a Clara Bow? Even when I look at the description I still have no idea what it is you are selling or what size the piece is. You say that if I want to buy this piece it is an 8 x 12 but if I want to buy the original it will be an 8 x 12. Aren't I buying the original? or is it a copy?

The tags for that piece are 'graphic tee', cell phone cover, art print, graphic handbag, and vintage art, among others. So what exactly are you selling???

I'd strongly suggest that you read the 'critique your own shop' blog post at
etsymentors.blogspot.com/p/critique-your-own-shop.html
and really work on your titles, descriptions and tags.

Firstly, people have to be able to find you. And once they do that, they have to know what they are buying!

Re: Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

Your shop hasn't been open that long so be patient.
You've received a lot of good information above, titles, tags, photos. Use the seller handbook http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/category/seller-handbook/
online labs and all the other information here on Etsy.

I'll go through one of your prints and tell you what questions I'd have if I were shopping for a Marilyn Monroe print
http://www.etsy.com/listing/100487647/buy-one-get-one-free-marilyn-collection

If I were a customer looking for a print of MM the first thing I would search for is black and white print of Marilyn...
not buy one get one free
There are two prints photographed are these the two prints I'd receive? What is the difference between all the different sizes do they all cost $20? What kind of art is this, original? pencil drawing? watercolor? photographic print?
I don't know anything about it. You need to explain it in great detail. And just mention other sizes are available. Otherwise it's just too confusing.

Re: Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

Don't feel bad,......I know its hard, and you might get discourage but this should only encourage you to try new advertising, letting others know you are here. I went to your shop and I liked your stuff. My first sale was a month after I opened, and its all a work in progress...... You will get your first sale, and you will jump for joy and panic a little not knowing what to do and call everybody you know ....that's what I did and then you'll worry about the next sale and the next..
Good Luck

Re: Still no Sales, after following tons of advice...

It's hard to learn how to sell on the Internet and especially on Etsy. Many experienced Etsy sellers started in the same place you are now. You have been given a lot of really good advice here. Make these improvements and you will start to see really good improvements.
