Just wanted to report a suspicious convo I got this morning. A potential buyer contacted me about a very expensive item - an oil painting - in my shop. He wanted to purchase it as a wedding gift for his daughter and said he could only pay through Square.
If this is a scam, I'm not familiar with the method. I have received other convos where people wished to pay through check or money order. The method for that type of scam is an overpayment. The buyer then asks for a refund and in the meantime the check turns out to be bad. I've never fallen for it, but it's a common scam practiced against artists selling expensive paintings.
Has anyone else encountered a request like this and do you know more about it?
The other thing that made me suspicious was the bad grammar and English, even though the buyer had what seemed like a English name.
