Spamming to email people in your circle?

Hey all!
I moved all my jewelry to its own shop to expand the line (filix.etsy.com) but since, the move ive gotten lots less views, hearts and no sales?

Is it spammy to email people in my circle a quick note to let them know I also have a new shop they may enjoy as well?

thanks!

It's borderline I think. I probably wouldn't do it. Do people in your circle get notified if you change your shop announcement?

No, I wouldn't be annoyed. As a seller, I know how important promoting is, and as a person who likes browsing, I would like it if one of the shops that I likes moved and told me. But that's just my personal opinion...

I probably wouldn't get annoyed about one short & sweet message..but if you kept messaging and sending new information about the shop, etc etc..I could see that being spam.

Re: Spamming to email people in your circle?

If I had a good report with my customers or a vendor that I purchased from I would definitely want to know where they went. Especially if I liked their shop. Definitely keeping the mssg short and no repeat seems o.k. to me.

Re: Spamming to email people in your circle?

I would not send a convo. Some people will be fine with it, others may not be.

I also opened a new shop and what I did was favorite it from my old shop so people in my old shop's circle could see that. Some of them came over to favorite my new shop when I did that.

Re: Spamming to email people in your circle?

good idea to mark some of the items (vs just the new shop) as a favorite...that would be another way to shuffle my new shops listings in the mix.

I think ill skip on messaging and just promote on my blog and facebook. if i did tho, it would definetly only be 1 short and sweet note...nothing continuously. that would be too much..i know 1 message would be fine from one of my favorite shop, but personally i wouldnt want anything more than that.

thanks for the opinions too!

Re: Spamming to email people in your circle?

Unsolicited mail is considered spam. I wouldn't do it. It only takes one person in a bad mood to flag your new shop!

From the Dos and Don'ts:

You must not use Conversations to send unsolicited advertising or promotions, requests for donations or "spam."

It's "unsolicited" if it's not a response to something, but a message out of the blue.

Re: Spamming to email people in your circle?

Considering we've gotten this boom of spammy "give us free stuff" convos, etc, I'm one of those borderline touchy people right now. BUT!!! I would say, if your message said something simple identifying who you are and how important their support was for your previous shop, it would probably not go over too badly.
I do think you're probably playing it safe not to message. Good luck with your new shop!!!

Re: Spamming to email people in your circle?

technically it is not allowed by the etsy tou. Best you can do is put something in the old shop's announcement

Re: Spamming to email people in your circle?

I generally add people to my circle because they make cool treasuries. I may not pay attention to their shop. I might not even like the items in their shop.

I would be fine with getting a convo from a shop where I had bought something. Getting a promo convo from someone just because I put them in my circle would seem strange to me.
