Spam favoriting?

So yesterday three items in my shop were favorited multiple times by people who just created Etsy accounts in the last couple of days. Each person had favorited almost the exact same number of items. Of course, no one bought the items that kept getting favorited.

Was just wondering if anyone else experienced something like this in the last few days. I'm beginning to think that some accounts are just spam accounts. Not really sure where they all found these items in particular. The stats just say Etsy Other.

I welcome anyone to spam favorite my items! Regardless of their intention, it only benefits you. The more your items are viewed and favorited, the more likely it is they will show up further in search results.

I have had that happen before -- a bunch of identical items getting favorite within a short period of time. I always just figured it was a bunch of girlfriends telling each other about this great item :> I also learned that if someone has put your item in a Treasury, then it is apt to get a lot of favorites quickly. But I agree with Maggie - Bring on the favorites!

These might be hearting/faving games going on in the teams. I agree, it's good to be favourited!

Honestly I don't even worry about who has marked my items as favourites.

I had my Valentine designs favorited by a few people. I thought that was because my items had high visibility somewhat in that timeframe, therefore more people had seen it and favorited it.

I had this too, for some of my valentine items. Maybe they were in a mailing or high in the browse sections somewhere?

I dont think it makes a huge amount of difference whether they are spam accounts or not but I notice that when i have a flurry of likes and favourites i normally get a sale...

Yep - this has been happening to me in the last few days, too. It's annoying, since it artificially inflates my favorites and views and makes it harder to track my real traffic, but I can't see that it will do any harm. It's definitely artificial, though, and very patterned. It'll stop eventually - they always do.

I looked today at one of these accounts. And she favorites reserved listings for someone else. For me a strange thing to do, so I think you are right Stacey.

I will get blitzed sometimes, I too hope it means more traffic will equal more sales. But it would be nice to have a I like it versus I want it option!

I had customers who actually bought from me and never favorited my items or shop. And the other way round, a person who faved you is not obliged to buy.

Hearts may be from sellers who play promo games or make treasuries. It is easy to check whether your admirers are sellers or not.

It will not hurt, even more - the higher your stats, the better you are seen.

I have the same thing happening. Started yesterday and still going on today. The same necklace favorited over and over and many, many views on the same item as well. I thought I was on an Etsy main search page, but I'm not. If anyone figures this out, let me know. A lot of the favorites were after the item was sold!
