So how did you get your start?

So I have been wondering, I have been selling on etsy for over a year now and I was curious as how everyone here got their start...how did you start making the items you do that lead you to shopping on etsy? Did you just start making it as a hobby and the hobby grew, or did someone else you know make it before you and show you and you just kept going?

I got my start in high school - I took a fine arts class and one of the topics we covered was jewelry, my teacher taught us how to knot pearls but not much other than that. I started with just pearls and i only did knotting because i didnt know how to do anything else and I rarely made jewelry unless i had a commission .But thanks to the power of google and youtube, I was able to learn how to use wire and my business grew and I started to get much better at it and soon made this account and the rest is history...

so tell me..( if you wish) how did you get your start?

Re: So how did you get your start?

I got started last year by making little boxes to improve my adobe illustrator skills. And then I just fell in love with making little boxes and patterns, etc. I opened my shop with only 4 items so it was a really slooow start.

I didn't really have a plan at all in the beginning and I just muddled through last year.
My shop has been open for 15 months and I have made the same amount of sales in this last 3 months as I did in the first year.
I am still muddling through but now I can see it as being a viable business - not just a hobby. That is very exciting!
